  1. I would try not to, but if I didn't have much other choice then I would.
  2. 2 1/2 hearts. Oops, don't have that available. 2 hearts and hope to survive. Wouldn't be surprised to make 10 tricks though. Would try 3 hearts at teams though
  3. Let me get this right. Holding the North hand after partner doubles 2H Claus is forcing to game? Please let me play against him for money. As to the other question, what is the difference between: (2H) X 2NT 3H 4C 4S and (2H) X 2NT 4S Does anyone have any definite agreements on the sequences?
  4. Well, I tried double and followed up with 4S after 2NT. Partner didn't get the message, and passed holding: [hv=s=skxhxxxdqjxxcxxxx]133|100|[/hv] On the heart lead I wrapped up all 13 tricks. Bidding 3C here would have led to playing there apparently. Lost 13 on the board, since they bid the slam (weren't playing Lebensohl at the other table).
  5. Depending on the juristiction that you play under, there are several possible meanings for a 2NT opening. For example, in the EBU land at level IV I play that a 2NT opening shows a destructive pre-empt in either minor. Showing a weak hand (5-9 HCP) with both minors (5-5 shape) is also common. However, these sort of hands require significant agreement with your partner, and wouldn't involve a pass by partner. Without any agreement to the contrary I would open your hand 2NT every day of the week, so I wouldn't lose any sleep over the matter. Your partner has a huge amount extra, and slam is a reasonable bet on these cards. I like the sequence: 2NT 3H (Transfer to spades) 3S 4C 4D 4S 6S
  6. 1 reply? It's not that dull a hand!!
  7. You're fortunate to be dealt: [hv=d=w&v=n&s=saqjxxxhaqdakxcaj]133|100|Scoring: IMP[/hv] Bidding proceeds: Pass Pass 2♥ to you. What is your plan? If you double, partner bids 2NT (Lebensohl). What next?
  8. I like to pull when I go to the pub and meet an attractive woman B)
  9. OK, I've decided I'll come, if I can find a vagely competent partner. Anyone interested? I can't get there for Friday night due to work commitments though. Mark
  10. I think Mike's comment was also made in jest.... Have a look at this link: http://www.poorbridge.com/?misc=10 (About Reverse Tempo Doubles)
  11. I've said this before on vugraph, and I'll say it again now. DON'T PLAY PUPPET STAYMAN. EVER!!! My reasons are as follows: 1) The sequence 2NT 3C 3NT makes it much harder for responder to show his hand 2) It tells opponemts too much about opener's hand
  12. Have less sex?!? Why would anyone want to do that Mark (who wants to have more sex)
  13. I wish to point out that partner doesn't have his double here.... I agree with 3C and then spades later on, probably at the 4 level opposite a partner known to be sane.
  14. A couple of points: 1) 3S here is sick at any vulnerability. QTx in hearts is completely worthless, and I'd be happier with xxx instead, and only a 4 count. 2) This isn't our hand at all, unless partner will bid again, in which case I can support spades later. Since any heart finesses that may be required rate to be onside, trying to push the opponents into a game that rates to be cold doesn't look to be a good idea. 3) A raise in spades might blow a lead on defence, if partner has a suit like KJxxx
  15. Amen to all of this. Lets hope that we've said the last word on the subject.
  16. Given that it's meant to be a chance for us to all talk to each other out of the forums, I reckon chat on has to be the way forward.
  17. 6H looks fine on the first. A guess, but these ones always are The second hand looks like the classic hand not to bid at the 6 level. However, I doubt they're making much with my bits and pieces, so I'll give them an x card.
  18. A bit late to this discussion perhaps, but my personal view is that if other people want to cheat, as long as it isn't for money, who cares? I don't. If someone wants to beat me by cheating, it doesn't concern me in the slightest. Bridge isn't my life, and I play it solely for enjoyment. However, if someone were to stop me from using MSN or something whilst I was playing, that would bother me.
  19. Pass every time. Put my K of hearts somewhere else (or even not in my hand at all) and I might consider it, but it's waste paper on offence, but might be useful on defence. Partner should play me for some values if it LHO passes.
  20. Anyone read a Dilbert book any time recently. I once had a boss tell me to "Work smarter, not harder". Back in my naive days I thought he was giving me genuine advice.

    Bid?

Hmm, I think I'd just open your partner's hand 4S and be done with it. No confusion in that case, and partner isn't going to be forced to guess what's going on. True, it may lead to some missed slams, but having confused auctions like this causes problems.
  22. My style is usually to bid 1NT here, and have the auction go something like: (1S) 1NT (X) 2C (X) and sneak off to the bar whilst partner goes several off. I have a feeling that pass might be a better option.
  23. I must admit I can't see that the UI suggests one lead over any other. I wouldn't lead a trump, since I think this can only lose, but there's a case for all other suits, either with or without the UI. I think I'd lead a spade, but am not convinced this is necessarily the best.
  24. Partner requested that I bid my best suit. So I will. With 4 good spades partner might have balanced with 2S rather than double
  25. 3♥ looks pretty obvious to me. Equally, I would give strong consideration to 3♣. My pre-empts are sound 2nd seat vulnerable, and partner will play me for something close to this.
