Double and pull 4H to 5C. Is there any reason partner can't have a a card or 2? 3rd seat pre-empt and a strictly NF raise hardly promises the world, even at unfavourable vul

Riding a cello? Where I come from the cello is essentially a big violin! Or was I missing something there?

Someone should find their way to 3NT with these cards. It won'r make either, but it has better chances than 5C

Is this behavior appropriate for a star?
mr1303 replied to bid_em_up's topic in General BBO Discussion
Getting back to the original point, as a general rule I would say that obviously it is inappropriate behaviour if sent to someone who found it offensive. However, a second point was made by someone who said that BBO should investigate without an official complaint being made. This I am against since say (for example) I was playing on here with my girlfriend/wife. I then (for example) sent her a private message suggesting something intended for her ears only (I won't go into details for obvious reasons). This conversation may be perfectly normal in the circumstances of our relationship. 2 weeks later I find myself banned from BBO for sexual harrassment or similar. This idea smacks of Big Brother (as in 1984, not the TV programme) and the Thought Police. I think it would set a very dangerous precident to start monitoring private chat before a complaint is formally made. -
I tried doing just that, and it said that the board administrator had not enabled permissions. This one for Rain?

IN EBU land, I would rule this as green (traffic light system). Partner could have played in 2H doubled. He chose not to do so. Why would he pull to 3D if he had anything like both majors?
-
I would play the A. I think I'm already doing well on the board (I expect 11 tricks to be at worst a 60-70% board) so unless I need a very good score (towards the end of the session and I think I'm a bit behind) I'll look to get my 100% board on another deal.

Dare I say it: 18th Century Acol: 1H 2C 2NT(15-16 balanced) 3NT or 1H 2C 2S 3D 3NT I think South has too much for a not forcing 2H after 2C by North.

My opinion is that if we don't reopen with a double on this hand, you are inviting opposition to overcall on rubbish as often as possible, as you will never penalise them. If the auction went 1S (2C) X P where double was for penalty, would you consider pulling? I for one would not. If partner bids 2H, then we have to pass. It is the downside of playing negative doubles rather than penalty doubles.

Misclick....Undo....Change of mind.....Undo

I would end up throwing something at my computer! That paperclip was without doubt the MOST annoying thing I have ever experienced on a computer. -
If I can play Keri I invite with 4/5 hearts. If partner shows only 2 hearts (by pulling to 2S or 2NT) I bid 3C.

It seems that Gordon Brown has endorsed Tony Blair running for EU President: http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/main.jhtml...4/nblair114.xml What do the other European posters think about the possibility of this? I won't cloud the thread with my own views about it just yet.

I only ever played Acol seriously with 1 partner, I had the agreement that any 4441 (with any singleton) was opened or rebid in NT. We decided this as any alternative wasn't really playable. We did get good results doing things this way.

Not sure what's going on either, but I wack this either way. If it makes, I'm a Dutchman (I'm quoting someone here, and I can't remember who it was or the context, except that it referred to a bridge contract, and don't intend any offence to anyone or any nation).

Given I passed first up, the chances of me having a slam try here are negligible, so 3S should be search for the best game, be it 3NT, 4H or perhaps 5 of a minor. Even if I were unpassed, it is 100% clear to me that 3S should FIRSTLY be looking for the best game. If it turns out to be a slam try, then this should be made clear by later bidding. E.g. pulling 3NT to 4 of a minor or 4H after bidding 3S
-
What looks likely to me is the possibility of ♥A, ♥ ruff then A♦ being cashed meaning that you can't make anything. Against that, you have 4 almost certain winners against 4H. My possible bids are 4NT if natural, double if for penalty, 5C or pass. I think pass is probably the most likely way to go plus on this board. I certainly wouldn't be mocking anyone who decided to pass with these cards.
-
Anyway, partner intended 4C as I have a pile of rubbish. I took it as slammish, and had the following auction: 2S P P 3C P 3NT P 4C P 4D P 4H P 4S P 5C P 6C I forget how many off it went, but partner had the following: S x H Jxxxx D x C AJxxxx
-
Anyway, I tried 4C (because I wasn't confident of partner making 3NT no matter what his hand was, and didn't want partner to have to decide what redouble meant). Unfortunately this was the wrong decision. Partner had exactly 9 top tricks in NT, and made exactly 9 (he played in 4NT).

Anyway, take my advice she has not done. She has just bought a car for £1200, with a car insurance quote to match (it has been heavily modified, and has tinted windows etc. I suggested a much smaller car for around £300, but she said she wouldn't be seen dead in a car that size. Given that she is in severe danger of losing her job at the moment, I fear for her finances.
-
A friend of mine seems to be struggling a lot financially. She's only recently (last 3 months or so) turned 18, and earns a lot less than me (and I don't earn a lot either). She still lives at home with her parents and doesn't have a large loan, but she drinks and smokes something chronic. She takes taxis to and from work (at £20 a pop), and I've discovered that she has missed a payment on her credit card. She's now planning on taking out a loan to learn to drive and buy a car. I've tried persuading her of the errors of her ways, but she won't listen, and says that young people are "the credit card generation". She also says that I'm a hypocrite having just taken out a mortgage to buy a house (at the same price than I previously paid in rent). I'm now quite concerned about her. Should I just leave her to make her own mistakes, or should I try further to do something about it. If so, what?

[hv=d=s&v=b&s=s109xxhxxxdjxcjxxx]133|100|Scoring: IMP[/hv] Last board of a 10 board match, and you are 12 imps down. Game all up the last, as it were. LHO opens 1S in second, and partner bids 3NT. RHO doubles (and self-alerts as exposing the psyche) What do you go. Limited agreements (you expect 3NT to be based on a long minor, but you tried a dodgy psyche 2 boards previously)
-
[hv=d=e&v=b&s=saq9xxhqxdaxxxckx]133|100|Scoring: IMP[/hv] East deals and opens 2S, a weak 2. You decide to pass (agree?) and partner reopens with 3C. Not really fancying anything to flash, you settle for a mundane 3NT (agree?) Partner now comes back to you with 4C. What now?
-
I like pass here. Raising hearts may just warn them of their fit.

In which case I withdraw my comment. Incidently, it is much funnier if you confess your scam at the time. This is one that happened to me: http://www.poorbridge.com/?cotm=1

My vote is for 2C. If it attracts further action from partner I'm well placed, and if partner passes the chances are we weren't making very much anyway. Pass is too much of a gamble at the 1 level, and I'm not happy about 1NT or 2NT, either a distinct under bid or over bid. 2H is yuck.
