Any help/advice on tournament format greatly appreciated!
Curls77 replied to rustysnow's topic in General BBO Discussion
You need message ur players with trny number and start time. Use bbo mail or any non bbo as skype or whatsap to let them know. Do not forget that if ur trny is "open", any bbo player will be able join it. If you want restrict entry to ONLY selected group of players, you need select option "Include Custom List" and have txt file uploaded to bbo with nicknames of players you want to be in. The very first bbo version, windows client V1, shows all scheduled trnys & teams, many days ahead, but both web versions show only up to 90 mins prior to start. Another tip. If you do not want add "outsiders" to ur trny, u can always do it manually (without using bbo trny tool) and assign bye to a pair without opps. There are many public, not much used rooms in bbo, let ur friends know and get there. Then u can have table run by TD where u post assignments, get scores reported and manually assign new round. TP Club in bbo does similar. *PS maybe Barmar or other forum moderator will move this topic to TD area -
I ask bbo to please consider disallow someone kibitz table where one or more players have marked that name as enemy, ie blocked them. I do ask this for benefit of IAC teaching club, where some ex-members, banned for rudeness and many other coc violations, keep coming to watch our events, with one intent only - to annoy players and IAC TDs. Our events are always open to kibs, to help members learn, and outsiders see what our club does and eventually apply to join. But I am sure that would be of use for players in any bbo room. BBO please consider. And while there, pls consider limit whom zzz visitors can watch, it's really strange that they would come watch intermediate learning team match with Jec table and all other good tables playing + vugraph, which gotta be 100 times more interesting. Thanks.

I can share some more links, given by diana eva. I am affraid none reffers to V3, but TD tools are same, just look little different. In Forum are some pages where a new TD can read about what he has to do, about his attitude when he direct a tournament. In BBO Forum you may find lot on information: How to set a tournament http://www.bridgebase.com/forums/topic/16194-td-class-1-script/ Traing as TD (by Rain - session 1) http://forums.bridgebase.com/index.php?showtopic=12986 Traing as TD (by Rain - session 2) http://forums.bridgebase.com/index.php?showtopic=13117 Adjustments by Fred http://www.bridgebase.com/forums/topic/33882-using-gib-when-adjusting-scores/ We posted an article on news to help the TDs: http://webutil.bridgebase.com/v2/news_fetch.php?id=3629 -

That is very kind of you Russell :) I am one of IAC admins, private club in IAC and we also lowered our criteria of admissions in attempt help people that are forced stay indoors. Please send me private message in bbo with your email and I can help you with some tips for running small size trnys. -
No answer from any bbo yellow? Is editor there and I (we, many tried) are blind and cant find it, or feature dessapeared with V3, as many others?
-
I do not seem able find how to rotate hands in V3 in some previously saved deal, meant to be uploaded to teaching / bidding table or a trny. Also, is BBO aware that most V3 buttons do not show in Edge? Thanks

Diana has mailed the most wanted mail all our members awaited, and yes - finaly :) - private clubs work, ty ever so much BBO! And warmest thanks to Barmar and DianaEva, and all other yellows that we bugged daily.. ♥

We were told that an update, scheduled early this week will fix our problem, and there was announcment in bbo news, which is gone now. Did that update happen? Our problem remains, would someone be nice enough to explain to us what the problem is? We figure it has to be linked with Prime Club creation, but that one is not even visible in oldest window client, I wish I could understand the need of changing one so obsolete version, that so few use, yet it's essential for us, being only access to club management tools. And while we wait for full fix, will bbo please let us know to whom we can send updated member list, say once a week, so at least we minimize negative aspects in that field? While moaning about all that, allow me say once more, if silence persist in clubs, inable to announce events, clubs will die, slowly but certainly. We know we are not BBO's top priority, but it will be big shame kill good functional club, that exists for so many years. Thanks for any help in advance (barmar or Diana, likely!)

I never knew priorities in NMF, or in auctions as this one, does one show other 4card major or 3 card support for responder's major? Simple game in bbo with pick-up partner, IMPs, all vulnerable. Assuming vanila 2/1, auction: (P) P (P) 1C (P) 1S (P) 2N (P) 3C* (P) 3C was alerted as relay. What oppener rebids with ♠AQJ ♥AKJ4 ♦A6 ♣T953 ? Or was I supposed raise spades directly? Thanks !

It is very hard, almost impossible to keep club running without accessing management tools. I speak in name of IAC club, we have been very patient, but it's been over month and half since problems started. Emails to bbo support stay unasnwered, can we please be given an idea when it will be fixed and fully? Most our members feel that creation of Prime Club provoked malfunction of other clubs, and none plays in there. Does BBO want to risk death of existing, and well functional clubs?

Is it only me? If I set to see hand diagram rather than displaying picture of cards, bidding box completely covers one of NS players. That can be a big problem for teaching tables. Also, when using hand diagram, Double Dummy in history is impossible to read. And if friend happens to log at same time, gets very frustrating to say at least. Another huge problem for teaching tables is that host, ie teacher, has no access to UNDO. We have tested in IAC new voice feature on teaching tables, and some members can hear ONLY if they are added as speakers too.

After just couple of minutes at new version, because being unable load any other BBO client, my eyes are full of tears, only because of color choice of chat. PLEASE, pretty please, change that light blue and green used in chat. I saw in other post that Barmar says flash update gives problems to some users, but for a month now I am rarely able log in to it, AND to old windows client, in specific hours of the day. I blamed my connection for that, but am unsure now if that's main cause.
-
If you have installed old BBO windows client, PBN can be opened with NetBridgeVu.exe which automatically saves it as LIN. Other option is open PBN file with aaBridge ( free to download from rogerpf.com/bridge/ ) and save it as a LIN.

My friends and me noticed that as of lately, maybe just couple of days, the FD loaded we used for long stopped working. None can see the explanations saved within FD: the player, their pard, opps, kibs - none sees it, if the player is using it from web BBO version. But when I logged with old client version, I still could see it working, as a player or as a kib. In web version, if we try Delete or Show loaded FD we get "Error loading CC". Is that some temp problem ? Thanks

Minor updates to BBO: Daylongs, Find member feature
Curls77 replied to diana_eva's topic in General BBO Discussion
I really hate say this, but I MUST. Each your "improvement" is fork in the throath. Honest--- now when i needed look for player i parded last night, that I want mark as a friend - I get 20+ 'hits'? WHY BBO staff spends time developing features that are not only useless but step-back as this one? -
Try aabridge, freeware in constant upgrade. http://rogerpf.com/bridge/aaBridge You can drop URL link of a hand there, enter the deal, change whatever you want and save hand as LIN file, which later u can upload to bbo (wont't produce new url, or i wouldnt know of that feature). BBO nick of its creator is RogerPfi, if you have questions / suggestions.

There is 1 year long ongoing course on Super Precision, held by OliverC in IAC. In OCP rarely, if ever, you guess or gamble: pass= 0-7 points (any distribution) X= 8+ positive but no 5+ suit to show, opener can TAB in own suit or 4C= 8+ positive with 5+ clubs. Opener then has many options depending on their holding. OCP website: http://ocp.pigpen.org.uk

I am another alike, feeling like ET in BBO. I only have 3+ compatibility stars with people that even if they knew I existed would never in life play with me, as Jec, JLall, vugraph commentators etc ;) But what's funniest is that I have 0 compatibility with myself!! - this my name and my "hider" are star-free. Both play rarely, profiles are very much same, neither has any Masterpoints, neither has any enemies, only thing that differs is the Country flag, as in one I use flag of country where I am from, and on another of a country where I live now. So Steve, know you'r not only one, we can always choose to just ignore the compatibility thingy.

Competative bidding
Curls77 replied to Curls77's topic in Intermediate and Advanced Bridge Discussion
Thanks everyone a lot : ) Just theoretically, if 2nd auction was different and 2D was a "free" bid, ie: P (1C) X (1H) 2D (P) 2S (P) would now 2S be forcing? Double thanks ! -
Hi all. Would you please help me clear some misunderstandings I had with a new pard, as we disagreed on which bids are forcing. we are red, against white. IMPs. West deals and passes. (P) 1D (1H) 1S (P) 2D (P) 3C Is 3C forcing? What are other options South has there with: AQJTxxxx J Q Axx? Another situation: P (1H) X (P) 2D (P) 2S (P) Is this 2S bid, as following the original double forcing? Even tho partner is passed hand? South this time had: KQTxxx Ax AJxx A Thanks ! : )

Hi all, I have couple of questions about TCR and subs. As other IAC TDs, I mostly run tournaments exclusive for a private club IAC, but every now and then I open it to whole BBO minus bbo_iac's enemy list and TCR 90%. Other day there was a small 10 board trny (10 tables) that started with a sitout and 2 unresponsive players, so I needed 4 subs and got them from sub list. I got lucky for sitout, but those 2 unresponsive seats (and/or their pards), needed 17 (that's right SEVENTEEN) subs all together, I have never seen so many runners and rudes. So I have couple of questions: 1) Once we set minimum TCR , and then later we change something else in tournaments settins, as delay start by 2 mins or remove chat or barometer - do we need to set TCR again? It's because that check box appears unchecked when trny is edited. 2) It seems that TCR set for tournament start has no effect on sub list? ie - we get to see listed in sub list everyone that agreed to sub even tho their TCR is even 0%? If that's true, TDs could at least be allowed "see" TCR of specific sub and decide if they want to take a chance with them. 3) How long it takes if a sub does not respond to a call for us to get message that they refused to come? Thanks !

Windows client retirement feedback thread
Curls77 replied to cuckoo5's topic in Suggestions for the Software
While we are on trnys.. Again in IAC, a teacher of a particular system set an IAC exclusive practice trny (pre-set hands) week ago to run this Saturday. He would like students to sign in timely, so he can decide how many boards would be optimum, if it should be open to overall BBO to get different competition, etc. BUT, all students using web will see that trny only 2 hrs before its start, certainly not a week ahead as it was the plan. I guess it's just another + for good ole' client and a minus for a web. I am one of IAC TDs, trained by Onoway in old version. But, as a 'new' member of BBO, I've never gained "addiction" to old windows client, and I tried both versions. For running IAC trnys I actually use BOTH, as I find web better in most for exception of asking for sub within a club, which is impossible in web. It's very bad that IAC, or BBO overall, will lose a competent TD :( And even players that just won't find way to adjust (we still have MANY members that can't find IAC or trny in web). But, I wish to believe that all of them, once a comparsion is not an issue, as there won't be their "ole loved one", can keep an open mind and eventually they'll settle with web acess to a game and the site they love. -
Hi.. Curently at IAC (Intermediate and Advanced club on BBO) there is ungoing course on precision, specificaly so called OCP (system notes: http://bbo.pigpen.org.uk/). The course is almost a year long, and we are no aroound it's middle. Once-a-week classes are atended not only by new students as senior players come to help, and twice a week there are practice sessions. You might find partner there... As club is private, you'd need to register at http://pigpen.org.uk/IAC/index.php to be able to get access to it. GL : )

Windows client retirement feedback thread
Curls77 replied to cuckoo5's topic in Suggestions for the Software
IAC stuff is trying to “clean-up” the club, as over years, it kept growing, having now over 3000 members - unfortunately most of them are no longer active, probably many even not members of BBO anymore. We tried retrieve list of members that our admin nickname (bbo_iac) has on BBO and weren't able, but Barmar was so kind to get that list for us, and as he suggested we should ask for a new feature in future BBO. . It would be very useful if Club Managers were able to download the members list, and if possible, upload a new list replacing existing one. Thanks : ) -
So, it would be a big mistake from N to conceal diamond lenght and bid 2N to show min hand but with both majors stopped? You're right.. So long minors and double fit blinded us, we didn't even realize there is a play in NT
