  1. I recently signed up as part of assisting a user with the software. Unfortunately I learned that I was hit as part of a blanket ban on someone possibly on my IP block. I've since filed a trouble ticket, but I wanted to make a suggestion that will greatly assist with future issues related to logging in. Could you consider making the error text area clickable/selectable so that users can copy and paste the text into emails, or at least remove the fade so that it's easier to copy the text? In its current state, it cannot be selected, and after about 10 seconds or so, it fades out. This causes me to click the login button again so that the error message appears again. This is annoying. One approach could be to an existing chat box resource as a "status box", or have the server appear in another colour than other players or messages. Make it appear only after the server has sent the client a message, and then remain persistent. Ultimately, the implementation is up to you, but you've really got to fix this some way! Thanks!
  2. He was using 4.7 before and it seemed to work well enough. I'd like to test it out all the same. Yeah, I understand and appreciate the reasoning behind the web client it. But I'm also working as hard as I can to enable him to continue enjoying what he enjoys with as little retraining as possible. The real "problem" is that he's somewhat set in his ways and the ideal solution would be to convince him to upgrade to the web software. For my part, I don't know the software (or the game) well enough to re-acquaint the two. Finding the old client and seeing that it worked is a third option that would yield the quickest solution without hitting the other barriers... except that I can't find it, which is at this point an insurmountable obstacle. I'll suggest that he continue with the 5.x series client he's got, but with the hope that the older client turns up at some point. He's using it and he plays quickly enough once he's in a game, and so I think he'll probably manage. He says that the standalone in classic mode has differences that bother him, but I'll chalk it up to ghosts for now.
  3. Thanks Matmat. I'd test it myself but apparently I was banned as my account was being created and I'm waiting on assistance to test this out. I'll reply with results as soon as they become available.
  4. I'm a computer support techie who recently migrated a user of BBO to a new computer. His old computer used the 4.x series client and he's explained to me that there are changes in the 5.x series clients that he's not comfortable with. I've looked through the website but unfortunately I cannot find any sign of the 4.x series clients. The only reference I've found (without much looking) is a beta with a dead link. Is there an archive of old versions of BBO available? Thanks.
  5. Hello, I'm a computer technician who is supporting an older gentleman who enjoys playing Bridge withthe BBO community. He's not comfortable with the Internet-based software client and prefers the standalone client, and so I'm making a request on his behalf. His computer was recently replaced with a new system which includes a widescreen format monitor. It's a little smaller vertically and so part of the client is overtaken by the task bar. I can hide the taskbar behind the client but he's not comfortable with this. The Window on the client itself is locked in size using standard definition screen ratio (4:3). It cannot be maximized and so it will not fill the boundaries of the wide screen format. Based on what I've read about the software, I understand that users are encouraged to move to the web-based client. However if there are intentions to upgrade the old client, I'd like to suggest for the new crew who plan to participate in the game that BBO support wide screen format display, or to have the window resizable. There could be minimum window boundary where the window could not be made smaller than a defined size, and the card positions could be made proportional based on the vertical or horizontal size of the window. The alternative would be to suggest that he learn about how to use the web client, or to live with the limits of the stand-alone client. This isn't impossible, but I'd like to help in any way I can to reduce the learning curve. In Summary: If there are to be future releases to the stand-along BBO client, could it be setup with support for resizable windows and the widescreen window format? Thanks for your consideration.
