  1. Feel free to disagree, but I find the bidders challenge a bit lopsided. The hands are chosen to be interesting and they certainly are. Very often they are interesting because a slam was on and partner had just the right cards for an easy make. Very few good scores are made by taking the pessimistic view and often very good experts find themselves in a tiny majority. This is not sour grapes, I do well at these events, but some of the most interesting hands can be where clever players find a way to avoid getting too high. If someone has done some statistics to show that I am wrong I would be interested to see that.
  2. i have had the same experience playing hearts on on of these sites. Cash a couple of tricks to avoid being thrown in and you get "idiot - boot him"!
  3. I agree. I have to thank BBO for refunding my entry when I have done this but there should be a warning. Probably 10 minutes as it's hard to finish a daylong in 5.
  4. ok point taken. but there has to be a simple solution, even if it means adding an extra tab.
  5. Why does the list of pending tournaments include "running" tournaments at the top. If you want to see what is coming up next, you have to scroll down through all the running daylongs first. This is very annoying. There is a tab for running events already as well as one for daylongs, which appear on 2 lists.
  6. BBO drops connection from time to time. There is nothing wrong with my internet or computer, just stops responding at random. Why do we have to pay for BBO's unreliable software? Halfway though a paid tournament suddenly you are excluded because of the 30 second rule. It seems to happen to other players as well. Obviously BBO does not profit from this as it's another player who gets the prize but makes me want to avoid express reward etc in future. Do many players have this problem?
  7. when you select "show all tournaments", daylongs come up first so you have to scroll down to find the next one upcoming. then when you enter one, it goes back to the top of the list and show the daylongs again. I can't be the only one finding this annoying. I want to see the NEXT tournament upcoming. there is already a tab for daylongs. the dayongs can still be on the "all tournaments" list, but please put them at the bottom! Thanks
  8. LOL perhaps you are right. But it would be nice to see more than 2-3 players at a time though. I imagine I would be fleeced but some of the hotshots if these events were better subscribed.
  9. Robot rebate 55% and robot races etc often have very low entry numbers. This is no surprise as the names of entrants are visible when you enter. Why would average players want to waste money on these when there are only a couple of entries and the ones already registered are obviously very strong players? I suggest that competitions like this should simply state the number of entrants only, no names, no stars, no ratings. I would certainly be more comfortable entering these if opps names were invisible and I am certainly a better than average player.
  10. Enjoying the "just declare" events and challenges: any chance of some "just defend" events/challenge the robots etc.?
  11. thanks almost new modem hub installed by qualified techs. so there is nothing I can do. not the end of the world though I have enjoyed BBO for years.
  12. well, it seems goodbye BBO. It's been fun. I just can't continue with internet cutting out every time I log on. Close BBO window, connection returns. Every time. I guess the robot dailies and challenges still works but that means logging in several times for 8 hands!
  13. It does happen. definitely. Maybe it happens to others but they are yet to realise it.
  14. since the new BBO came online, my PC loses internet connection frequently while on BBO. This only happens when on BBO. I can watch whole movies, play games etc without a problem, so something in BBO is interfering.
  15. TWERB really works well in this situation. In club level play it's rare to encounter a penalty double as opps "know" they have a contract, often getting too high.
  16. the "other table" in results seems to be missing.
  17. must rebid 2C over partners 1NT, then do you then pass partner's 2H? Impossible to know, so must pass unless you are doing so badly you need a top and prepared to risk a disaster.
  18. Those who say yes "automatic" seem to have a short memory for the times opening this garbage has gone horribly wrong. I have certainly had some 100% results from passing this sort of hand, accompanied by rage from the 4th seater who says "everyone opens that hand!" (chuckle, chuckle, I didn't). Either partner has a good hand and carries you to a bad 3NT.. "oh unlucky partner, going down in a balanced 24 count", or opps have 4/4 spades and neither opens or partner has garbage and you go 300 off. As another responder has said, you need overall statistics, not just the memory of occasional triumph!
  19. Maybe I'm thick, but I trust partner. Either it's lightner for a diamond or partner has the contract down whatever the lead.
  20. negative X was invented to handle those hands where you want to overcall but only have a 4 card suit. If you use it with a 5+ suit, it becomes meaningless. Partner does not know whether to support with 3. So there is no right answer: just guess and take the blame for a the dumb double if you are wrong.
  21. South should probably bid the 6D but north cued spades. He needs to let partner know about the CA rather than cue spades again.
  22. there are "beginners" with 5000+ logins and experts who can't handle a simple ruffing of losers. In a closed population like this, it should be very easy to calculate ratings. Who cares if someone cheats to make themself look world class. they will soon find themselves with an embarrassingly high rating without the skills to match. Swan bridge & others manage to produce a rating: are the programmers at BBO not up to the task?
