  1. I don't think RHO was unethical and definitely didn't post this to suggest otherwise. It is not always obvious what qualifies as a hesitation after a jump bid and whether or not you should balance on certain hands. I like to think that the number of players who genuinely feel their bids were normal (even if minority views), outnumbers those that act on UI and then deny it hoping to get away with it.
  2. I should have called you back again (3rd time for this hand!) but I was too distracted by all the food they were just bringing down :P I posted this as more of a sanity check because RHO seemed confident that 3♠ was clear.
  3. East denied the hesitation, West admitted to it so I don't know whether that qualifies as a hesitation or not.
  4. [hv=pc=n&s=sqj8743hj64dq85c2&w=sa92ht8dk9cakt764&n=st6hkq972da7643c9&e=sk5ha53djt2cqj853&d=e&v=e&b=6&a=p3sp(hesitation)pdp5cppp]399|300[/hv] The director was called before dummy came down to draw attention to West's hesitation before East's balancing double (a passed hand). 5♣ made 11 tricks, do you call the director again feeling you have been damaged or not? IMP scoring.
  5. (1♥)-Pass-(1NT)-Pass (Pass)-X Is this a hand with values and ♥s interested in defending or a flawed take out double?
  6. If that guy is French I will eat both my shoes!

  10. What do I do to make GIB play like that when it is my partner? :D

  12. Adam, I believe you just walked right into it :P
  13. I still don't understand how it is 100% if you just play on trumps. Say you do and RHO wins the trick. He returns ♣s, which you have to duck to prevent them setting up a stack of clubs. After winning, LHO plays a spade to your ace. You draw more trumps if you like but eventually play ♦A and ♦. RHO wins this and plays another ♣ which means you are going down with LHO having KQ♣ and RHO K♦ and KQ♥. You could still make it on this layout by cashing the ♠A before exiting in trumps. Then LHO is endplayed as soon as he gets in with the first ♣. So it looks like it is 100% as long as there is no ♠ ruff?
  14. Gordon already mentioned why that lines goes down.
  15. Someone showed me this hand tonight after playing at YCBC, nice to know that textbook hands don't only show up in textbooks!
  16. What is the reasoning behind playing 2♥ as 6-4? I would have imagined that differentiating between 4/5 ♦ is less useful than 5/6♦ but more frequent so that knowing about the 5th ♦ (or lack thereof) would be more helpful overall? Maybe it just seems that way because I never get GF 6-4s
  17. 2NT-AP ♠KJ84 ♥KT65 ♦Q87 ♣T8 Do you consider the lead obvious? If so what is it?
  18. [hv=pc=n&s=sakq5hat8d65cajt7&w=st72hj9432da8cq32&n=sj863hkq5dkjck984&e=s94h76dqt97432c65&d=n&v=b&b=13&a=1c2ddp2sp3dp3np4cp4np6sppp&p=h7h8h9hks3s4sks2sas7s6s9sqsts8c5hah2h5h6hth3hqd2c4c6cac2cjc3ckd3c8d4ctcq]399|300[/hv] First time partnership, no agreements about anything.
  19. Here's what I do: after the lead I close my hand and put it on the table before any play is made by declarer, then inspect dummy after the lead. Imo that makes it pretty clear I'm thinking about the whole hand, irrespective of how fast partner and declarer play. Since I'm not even looking at or holding my hand I don't think any opponent would complain if I don't lead my singleton in tempo or duck my ace.
  20. It is cross-IMPs pairs on a Friday night at the Young Chelsea bridge club in London. You are playing with a decent player and encounter the following hands: Hand 1: [hv=pc=n&s=skqhq32daqt432c62&n=sa873hk5d86cakj75&d=s&v=e&b=3&a=1dp2c(GF)p2dp2sp2np3nppp]266|200[/hv] J♠ lead. Hand 2: [hv=pc=n&s=saq7652hq6dj963c3&w=s4hj875d842cakq75&d=w&v=b&b=4&a=1cp1h2s3h3s4hppp]266|200[/hv] You lead the ♣3 to the Ace, partner following with the 4 (std carding) and declarer the 2. The ♥J is now run to your Queen. Plan the defence.
  21. I meant to put this in Interesting Hands forum, oops :/
