  1. No, dont think you should bid 2N. Describe your shape further, I'd bid 2H. You may have a slam in a minor and bidding 2N could make it difficult to find if partner doesn't know your shape. On your next bid, bid 3C. This should show the type of hand you have.
  2. played at the same club tonight, lol. The director who made the call was there and played against us, i got my revenge :). Doubled partial making, slam, and a couple other top boards.
  3. Interesting, did you check to see what 3S would have shown? I'm always super careful now with these types of bids before clicking because sometimes there's some huge strength requirement and we end up in a high level like here. For example, sometimes i'll have a long running minor and want to jump to 3NT after GIB's response and i have a HCP Hand....but cant do that lol.
  4. Guess I disagree. I find through personal experience that atheists are more genuine, and thus more consoling with situations like this. The last thing I'd want to hear as a parent if my child suffered such a horrible tragedy is someone telling me they are in a better place now.
  5. on a related note, anyone read this piece of garbage? http://www.nationalreview.com/articles/337673/atheist-response-sandy-hook-dennis-prager
  6. So to be clear, in this situation I shouldn't have called the director?
  7. I think after the auction is over and before you lead, you should inform the person who inquired of your partner that she is hard of hearing and didn't hear the question. You should make sure the question he had is clarified before you make your lead. It absolutely affects how the hand would be played here obviously. Still a sloppy claim imo.
  8. I'm passing both and prepared to be wrong on the 2nd hand (3H I presume). Partner would certainly have bid 4 with any kind of decent values.
  9. Unfortunately no appeals committe at the long beach club. My LHO (West) was a director as well, and she "insisted" this was the correct ruling. I'm pretty discouraged to see this kind of thing. I feel like the director was taking advantage of me because I'm not a regular player at the club, and she didnt want to upset the regulars and one of her fellow directors. The director didn't even bother to look at East's hand to see if it was a logical decision if he was able to ignore the UI. Fortunately socal has better clubs than this one.
  10. I'm admittedly a very inexperienced live Bridge player, so really I'm posting this just to better understand the laws in this type of situation. You open 3rd as South white vs red in a club pairs game: QJ AKQxxxx J xxx right or wrong, i opened 4H. LHO paused for about 5 seconds with a quiet murmer "oh *****" and passes. RHO now bids 4S. I call director and am told that its noted and if we are damaged to call her back. What types of hands would East be able to bid with here? I pass, West now bids 5D and its passed out making 6. East had: AT953 x Kxxxx Jx West had: x T9 AQT743 AK32 Just a case of bad luck, or is this UI going on? I called the director back and she ruled there was no damage. Not saying i agree or disagree with the ruling, just wasnt sure and wanted some other opinion
  11. Think I'd open 1D. I'm afraid of missing game across a 7/8 count and a major suit fit if I open 1N. Maybe 1N in MP. This is prob an 18 count hand.
  12. Just unlucky, I dont think South can act here as it could be very dangerous. Happens. Next board.
  13. More importantly, need to consider if a different lead (i.e. cash hearts then tap in clubs) would have set the contract.....
  14. Was going to say, seems pretty insane to be going for overtricks in a game that should be going down and doubled. Shouldn't the algorithm allow the GIB to calculate whether the contract would have gone down on a different lead and make decisions based on this information?
  15. "great" was my attempt at sarcasm, apparently it didn't come across that way. Isnt it better to just ruff out a diamond? After E shows up with 2 spades, isn't it more likely he has 2-3 diamonds? I must be missing something, bc clearly you're better than me.
  16. Some play 2D and 3D as similar range with 3D being more distributional. Others play 2D as inverted still on in competition (which Im not much of a fan of).
  17. Good point. Should 2D be this hand? I think many play 2D as even worse...not sure what std is.
  18. His suggestion was I should bid 4C over 3D, not 3H.
  19. I bid 3H, but am now convinced I should have just bid 5D. Partner bid 4D and showed up with J xxx xxxxx AJxx I felt he should have cued 4C. Now I'd bid 4H, and a 4S bid by him I think should get us there. Guess the way I look at it is that his hand is much better than most 3D bids, so you owe me a cue bid. Was really expecting a barrage of heart bidding by the opps.
  20. Well I know some people might open this 2C, though I think it's sick to do so. 3D is preemptive.
  21. Imps, W/R Kxx -- AKQTxx KQxx You may disagree with the opening, but this was the auction (P) 1♦ (1♥) 3♦ (P) ?
  22. Edit: Never mind, just answered my own question
