  1. I wasn't talking about you and it probably says something good about you that you didn't get it :)
  2. It's bizarre and might be more important than it seems. GIB isn't a human. A mistake in a database or some code might manifest as a 3♣ bid in this situation and a jump to 7N in another. I'm not posting here to complain about or malign GIB. I'm trying to help by pointing out what I believe to be errors. The people maintaining it can ignore my comments at their leisure. Maybe you would rather I made up another acronym for GIB? Isn't it funny how people who couldn't in a million years conceive of how to implement a bridge playing computer program mock so effortlessly and with so little imagination those who have. Ginsberg's Unintelligent Bridge player. I'm sure Matt Ginsberg is laughing his head off at that one.

  5. I don't care about how to get good results playing with GIB or how to circumvent GIB's weaknesses. I use this forum to attempt to help the GIB team identify issues. The 7♥ bid is probably a bug or misconfiguration of some kind. Maybe it's easy to fix. Maybe it isn't. But, with regard to the use of Blackwood, GIB is showing 74 in the red suits which means it's quite possible it has a void in either spades or clubs. I would rather give up on a grand in this situation and just invite slam based on trump quality. Blackwood is too likely to produce a jump to slam showing a void when it has poor trump quality.

  7. If this kind of stuff isn't on the top of the fix it list, what is? Is it really that hard to fix that GIB doesn't take out take out doubles with absolutely no reason not to? Is it really that hard to change the point counting system to not count shortness in partner's suit? Is it really that hard to get GIB to bid its five card major in response to a takeout double rather than its four card minor?
  8. I agree this isn't a bug. Neither is it an error in judgment. It's a misconfiguration. With two spades and five clubs, without some special agreement that 2♠ doesn't constitute a preference, bidding spades shouldn't even be in the list of options.
  9. I think 8 diamonds to the AJT and the club king rates a 4♦ call. Otherwise there's no difference between this hand and x xx AJTxxx Jxxx

  11. Just play bridge robots. Human South. [hv=pc=n&s=sak3haq753da6ckt9&w=s64h9642d987c7532&n=s52hktdjt432caqj8&e=sqjt987hj8dkq5c64&d=w&v=n&b=12&a=pp2s3np5dppp]399|300[/hv] 3NT was described as 2-5♠; 2-5♥; 2-5♦; 2-5♣; 19-24 HCP; Stop in spades. 5♦ was described as 6+♦ 10-11 total points. On top of everything else that's wrong with this bid, the North hand has 12 total points the way GIB counts point, not 10-11.
  12. Just play bridge robot. Human South. [hv=pc=n&s=s75hdakq862cakq32&w=s86ht8653dt5cj987&n=sak2hj7dj9743c654&e=sqjt943hakq942dct&d=s&v=e&b=3&a=1dp3d3s4cp5dppp]399|300[/hv] GIB recognizes 4♣ as a cue bid according to the explanation given, but rather than bidding 4♠ it just blasts into 5♦. The explanation also indicated that 4♣ was forcing to 4♥.
  13. Just play bridge robots. Human South. This has probably been reported before. [hv=pc=n&s=skqj3hat7dkqj2cjt&w=s54h865da43cq8754&n=st6hkj93d8765c632&e=sa9872hq42dt9cak9&d=n&v=e&b=9&a=p1sp1np2cp2sppp]399|300[/hv] Since 2♠ invariably ends the auction, why doesn't GIB pass 2♣?
  14. Just play bridge robots. Human South. I think I've asked this before. Maybe my question was assumed to be rhetorical but I'm really serious. Does basic GIB just choose random cards from its hand when defending? [hv=pc=n&s=sajt3hkq76dcat864&w=sq654haj43d832cq2&n=sht82daqjt97654c3&e=sk9872h95dkckj975&d=e&v=n&b=2&a=p1cp1dp1hp3dp3nppp&p=cqc3c7c4d8dadk]399|300[/hv] The diamond shift is both hilarious and inexplicable. The lead of the queen of clubs is also utterly insane. Why on earth would you choose what is almost certainly declarer's best suit when making a short suit lead?
  15. 2♦ has to be a forward going bid and not an attempt to improve the part score contract. Otherwise, opener is going to have to make some sort of distortion to show a strong hand. Give opener AQxx - AQxx AQxxx and you want to bid 1♣, 1♠, 2♦. Once responder has indicated little game interest with 1N, East needs to just give up.
  16. Just play bridge robots. Human South. GIB is playing Walsh style responses but doesn't seem to know how. [hv=pc=n&s=st75haj87dajcqj64&w=sj83hkq94dq76432c&n=saq2ht632dk95ct93&e=sk964h5dt8cak8752&d=s&v=0&b=11&a=ppp1cp1hp1sp1np2cp2dp3cdppp]399|300[/hv]
  17. The auction in your post was really awful too and I'm sure neither of them is the worst ever. But this auction has THREE awful bids, 2♦, 3♠ and 4♠. Your auction seems like a glitch of some sort in a database - a bad one for sure - but this auction is a perfect storm of fundamental GIB flaws. Somehow it reaches 4♠ on an easily discernible 4-3 misfit, 20 HCP in quacks and absolutely no interference from the opponents.
  18. Just play bridge robots. Human South. [hv=pc=n&s=s3hk854dk65cakj85&w=skt8hqt762da874c3&n=sj9642haj93dt9ct4&e=saq75hdqj32cq9762&d=n&v=b&b=13&a=p1cp1hp1sp1np2dp3sp4sdppp]399|300[/hv] After the smoke cleared, GIB managed to go for 1100.
  19. Just play bridge robots. Human South. [hv=pc=n&s=sk93hak4daq6cak76&w=sj84htdjt8752cqj5&n=sq5hq976532dk4c32&e=sat762hj8d93ct984&d=e&v=n&b=2&a=p2cp2dp2np4dp4hppp]399|300[/hv] By any method of evaluation, the North hand is worth a slam try. Forget about the fact that North has an extra trump. Just count points the idiotic way and give one point for each doubleton. As an aside question, does GIB play that 2C=2D=2N=3D=3H=4H is some sort of slam try with 6 hearts? If so, under what conditions would it use this approach?
  20. I stand corrected, assuming the king ask promises all key cards plus the queen of trumps. The explanation just says that it promises all the key cards. If it doesn't also promise the queen of trumps then it shouldn't be automatic.
  21. Just play bridge robots. Human South. [hv=pc=n&s=skqj3h74dkjtcaq96&w=st9875hakjt3d8c83&n=s64h65daq732ck742&e=sa2hq982d9654cjt5&d=e&v=n&b=2&a=p1n2dd2hpp3dp3nppp]399|300[/hv] The explanation for the double of 2♦ was 9 HCP; likely stop in H; likely stop in S; The explanation for the 3♦ bid was the same with the addition of, "biddable ♦" If the double followed by a bid of diamonds can be a weak doubleton in each major then the explanation is horribly misleading.
  22. The South hand is very narrowly defined here so the idea that South would bid the grand based merely on the fact that North expressed an interest in South's cheapest king is a bit far-fetched. Basically, I don't agree at all that the robot should bid 5NT as a matter of course. That very idea precludes responder from drawing an inference and bidding 7. There should be some possible response to 5NT that will draw a grand slam bid from the 5NT bidder or it should not be bid.
  23. I wonder what's preventing it from doubling directly over 1♦. It already passed so it has about as good a hand as could reasonably be expected. I just had a laugh when I looked at what it led against 1NT doubled. It has J9 of spades and doesn't lead the suit in spite of partner's overcall.
  24. Just play bridge robots. Human South. My question is this and I've asked it before. Why does the robot bid 5NT if it doesn't know what to do with the answer? [hv=pc=n&s=sk6ha874dakj6ca42&w=sj7hkqt52d942cj96&n=saq9832h9dq7ck853&e=st54hj63dt853cqt7&d=s&v=n&b=15&a=1dp1sp2np3sp3np4np5dp5np6dp6sppp]399|300[/hv] I'm not saying GIB should bid the grand here but what is it hoping to hear when it bids 5NT? Surely 6♦ was the best answer it could have hoped for.
  25. Just play bridge robots. Human South [hv=pc=n&s=sakqhakq64djckj32&w=sjt8753hdat5c8764&n=s96hj832dkq974caq&e=s42ht975d8632ct95&d=e&v=n&b=2&a=p2cp3dp3hp7hppp]399|300[/hv] 3♥ was described as 23+. Just going by points alone, the partnership can be off an ace and North has RKC available.
