whereagles
1. Yes, but this is the sort of thing one should discuss with pard before a match :)2. Seems fine to me.3. In a casual partnership, 4♠. With pet pard, 3NT expressing doubt.
P_Marlowe
1) it is playing basic Acol, with a weaker hand he should make a neg. X, personnaly I dont2) Yes, your most likely game is 3NT, you need a stopper3) 4S, what else? You hold a minimum opener with few controlls. With kind regardsMarlowe

Saw my partner make a few aggressive bids earlier and wasn't feeling confident he meant his 3♣ as a game force. (He later said he thought my 3♦ was game forcing.) Obviously we needed to agree it. I think that playing a new suit at the 3 level as game forcing makes a lot of sense though, so take full responsibility. Live and learn. Matt, what may have happened is you felt ashamed of your cue bid and passed a forcing bid. Playing sayc, 2/1, or ACOL ( I guess), 3♣ should be a game force. I wouldn't cue with this, since I don't use cue bids to 'punt'. I would just rebid my nice 5 card suit.
