inquiry
The MisIry hand from the other threads:[hv=d=s&v=b&n=stxxxxhxdjtxxcjtx&s=saqjxxhakjtxxdcax]133|200|Scoring: IMP[/hv]With my little knowledge of MisIry, this hand looks awkward for responder to me. How should this be handled? Arend 4♠ is easy, 6♠ requires a optomist outlook during the auction. For 4♠, 2NT - 3♣3♠ - 4♠Pass 2NT = Strong with ♥ and pointed suit, or weak with clubs3♣ = pass correct3♠ = three losers with both majors, one loser in ♣4♠ = three loser and fit, game at least. For 6♠, north has to realize that if partner is missing both major queens in his "3 loser hand), slam is almost assured (almost identical hand.. .make it AKxxx AKxxx A Ax). That is, north has two potential covers, the fifth spade which makes up for the theoretical missing ♠Q and a singleton ♥ with lots of spades which makes up for the theoretical missing ♥Queen. If he thinks this way, he might well make a SLAM try with his essentially 0 hcp hand (the jacks can't really be of use to partner). The auction then would be one of the following. Note if there is a double in here somewhere it can actually help, so no interference given here. 2NT - 3♣3♠ - 4♣4♦ - 4♠5♠ - 6♠ 4♣ = misiry type slam try, denies ♣ cover 4♦ = lack of club not fatal (despite it being one of my losers), warning only ♦A useful. 4♠ = with one loser in ♣ and now one ♦ (after 4♦, time to stop this foollishness and signoff in game, partner CAN NOT be missing the two major queens if he is has one in both minors. 5♠ = come on, real world, after 4♣ slam try, you would probably bid 6♠ here, not 5♠... with first round control of all suits, great side suit ( hearts) and a known ♠ fit. I wouild. But we will go slow to show "judgement". 6♠ = I have denied control in ♣, no ♦ control of use and partner over-rides my veto of slam going after 4♦. He has to have control rich super two suiter, he is most likely void in ♦ with Ax of clubs (to ask for ♦ ace while missing known ♣ stopper. cherdano
Well, the key to 6♠ is of course the fact that in addition to the "distributional heart queen", responder can most of the time discard clubs fast enough to covers declarers second round loser there. I was wondering whether MisIry could find that out. (I am not sure whether you actually want to find out about that, as it would make a club lead certain, in which case it seems almost a 50% 5 or 7 hand (well there are some minor additional chances for 6). Arend Well, this auction... show ♣ loser (3♠), partner denies a ♣ stopper (4♣), opener warns only ♦A is working (4[dii]), you signoff (4♠), opener presses on... (5/6♠), clearly shows first round club control. Think about it... if you DON"T have ♣ stopper, and partenr says only the ♦A works for me, and you sign off and partner bids again, you CAN NOT BE off two ACES in the minors. So, partner has to have Ax of ♣. Also, for whatever it is worth, the ♦Ace information (only ♦A working) also means, you are not off two quick clubs. For instance if partner was.... AKQxx AKQxx x xx he would sign off after 4♣. Also, over 4♠, opener could try to be cuter than leaping to 6♠ (my choice). He can bid 4NT (missing ♥ Queen). This way opens the door to the slam as well... OVer 4NT (missing heart queen), the hand becomes an open book of sorts. One loser is ♥Queen (which with five trumps is not a loser). One is in ♣ and IT IS NOT a fast loser. So the other is ♦x or a major. Draw up his hands.... things like.... AKQxx AKxxx x Ax (you want to be in slam, probably) AQxxx AKxxxx void Ax (you want to be in slam, probalby) AQxxx AKxxx void Ax (you want to be in slam, probably) Once you focus on a slow club loser, and the missing ♥Queen, it is difficult to stay out of slam. I guess the death hand for slams are..... AKQxxx Kxxxx void Ax, andKQJxx KJTxxx void Ax but with these partner will quickly "accept" your signoff in 4♠ rather than bidding again.
