Gerben42
How would you interpret this auction (opps pass) in Polish Club: 1♣ - 1♦1♠ - 1NT2♠ - 3♦ and what would you bid holding 5134 and a 19-count?
Free
Don't you have to rebid 2♠ immediatly?
Gerben42
If you won't make game opposite 0 - 4 you can rebid 1♠ also.
david_c
Are we playing WJ05? If so, a 5134 19-count is about what I would expect from opener's bidding. (1♣:1♦,2♠ would promise a good 6-carder - anything less than that in the 18-20HCP range has to bid 1♠). Apart from that, I haven't got a clue what's going on. The WJ document says that 2♠ is not game-forcing, but it's not clear about when you can stop below game (except in 3♠). And what are the inferences from responder having chosen to rebid 1NT rather than 2♦? :P Oh, never mind, I'll just punt 3NT. :) By the way, what is 1♣:1♦,1♠:1NT,2♦? Gerben42
By the way, what is 1♣:1♦,1♠:1NT,2♦? For example 4153 and about 18 - 20. Could even imagine something like 3163 and bad ♦.
PMetsch
I think 3♦ is forcing. With 3 aces and 2 kings I bid 4♥, with less 4♦.
Flame
I think partner bidding is just keeping the bid allive showing something in diamond (stoper or better, with no stoper in club, i need to continue showing my hand. I would bid 3NT. If i had more slam ambitions like 4 diamonds, i would have bid 3H.
cicus
How would you interpret this auction (opps pass) in Polish Club: 1♣ - 1♦1♠ - 1NT2♠ - 3♦ and what would you bid holding 5134 and a 19-count?2♦ intead of 1NT would have shown diamonds so we can exclude that 3♦ is natural. In that case it must be game forcing (I would bid 2NT with all 5-6 point hands without 3 spades) and showing values in diamonds. Opener shall bid 3♠ now to deny a heart stopper. With a heart stopper responder will bid 3NT, without that he will bid 4♠ or 4♣. Over 3NT and 4♠ opener should pass, over 4♣ he should bid 5♣ or even 5♥ with strong clubs. 6♣ may easily be on. hrothgar
As other people have noted, there are a LOT of different Polish Club variants out there. One of the big differentiating factors is the set of hand types that are buried in the the 1♦ response to the strong club opening. For example, playing Matula's version, responser could have a number of game invitational hand types with primary Diamonds. This isn't a sequence that I'd like to trot out in a first time partnership...However, if I had to make a guess, I'd say that responder is showing Diamond values with secondary Spade support. Perhaps ♠ Kx♥ xx♦ KJ842♣ xxxx
cicus
mistake Convincing argument. Would you please explain where I went wrong? I bid according to WJ2005 (I hope).
Guest Jlall
I think he probably posted something, then edited it out and wrote mistake as a reference to his own post (hence the edit line).
