The auction:

N E S W

1 1 X P

2 4 ?

How do you think the auction should go from here. By agreement, the negative double always shows a 2-way hand: either both unbids, the major and willing to rebid NT, or the major and support for the opened suit. West bids 5D at his next opportunity.[/hv]

How about:

4 by South, 5 from West, 5 by North. Yes North has extras, but I don't think he can jump to slam (and pass wouldn't be forcing). Whether East will pass this -- I don't know.

Btw, I don't think this is a light opening.

If south shows at least 4 by his DBL, then north should bid at least 3. I don't know how to get to slam, but on the other hand it is 1 down after a diamond lead and west ducking the first club from the dummy (unless you finesse the T).

Diamond led. Ruff. King of clubs from hand. Ace of spades, spade ruff, club from dummy. Test hearts. Claim.

Hard to get a club ruff in 6 clubs. :P 6 hearts is not where you want to play.

2H is god awful. and no you will not reach 6C when you find a 5-4 major suit fit and are facing heavy competitive bidding and have 20 HCP. Sometimes in bridge you cannot find the perfect contract. 5H would be a very good score I bet.

I agree that 2H is a poor choice...what are the differences would you say between 3H, 4H, and a cue bid?
