david_c
... to find myself accepted as a sub into a tourney at the end of round 2, with no cards left to be played, and then become a victim of the "survivor" cut at the beginning of round 3! Might I suggest that this is not a very effective use of substitute players? B)
inquiry
As a rule, substitutes are not needed in a survivor tourney. Don't sign up for them and as director, don't stick people in (first round an exception). The game is automatically corrected for missing players (they are eliminated). If you do put in substitutes, they get cut very quickly the majority of the time. Why? More people run away from tourneys (despite BBO rules against it) when they are doing bad or have a horrible partner, than when they are doing good or have great partner. As for this situation, player could have found his own sub, or TD might not have known the pair was going to be cut. The software doesn't know until the end of the round. And if you are doing well, and your partner has to leave, you will not be too pleased with not being able to finish, so i can understand alternative opinions on subs... just the majority seem to get treated similarily to you.
