awm
Either bid is okay. At unfavorable colors, partner will expect something like eight tricks, and should bid the slam on the north cards over either opening. Opposite eight solid hearts and out (a pretty clear 4♥ opening bid in my book) north can count 13 tricks. I have a slight preference for the 4♥ opening because I will be more comfortable when the auction as at 4♠ when I get my second turn to bid. An auction like 1♥-4♠-P-P will be very tough on me, as 5♥ could easily go for a number but it will be very hard not to bid it on the eight-card suit. At nonvulnerable, I think this hand is a bit too good for 4♥ and would probably try 1♥.
whereagles
99,99% of time I open the "1 or 4" hands with 4 :)
coyot
Clear 4♥ for me, we play red vs. white for 2 down. red vs. red and white vs. white can be also 4♥ (after all, I have 5 and half losers :-)), white vs. red either 1♥ with immediate jump to 4♥, or open 5♥ directly :) This hand is likely to score 0-1 tricks on defense, therefore I would prefer to open preempt. Free
For me and my partner, 4♥ is the only possibility: not good enough for 1-level opener (not enough SlamPoints), not worth a NAMYATS, so 4♥... :)
Fluffy
You can open 1 or 4, but if you open 1, your next bid is 4, not 2. Bidding yet 3 is even worse IMO :). Bid what you wanna play sooner!
pigpenz
automatic 4♥why? simple no defensive quick tricks :)
candybar
With an opening hand count, I like to open 1H first, then jump to 4♥ over most responses. This hand is marginal opener, but the singleton K♠ tips the balance to preemptive. I vote 4♥.
inquiry
4♥. Does not meet my requirements for namyats (too many losers by one. change one small club to another heart, then 4♣ is ok). However, if not vul versus vul, I would open 1♥ because partner will think I am a lot weaker than this as I preempt very light under those conditions. So there I open 1♥ and if partner responds, rebid 4♥
luis
4♥ not even close
hrothgar
4♥ for any number of reasons... 1. The hand is too weak to open with a constructive bid playing MOSCITO. I can't imagine a 1 level opening in the context of a sound opening system 2. This is almost a textbook red on white 4 level preempt... helene_t
You can open 1 or 4, but if you open 1, your next bid is 4, not 2. Bidding yet 3 is even worse IMO B). Bid what you wanna play sooner! I disagree. Rebidding 4♥ should show a much stronger hand. Open 4♥ (as others have said, this is not even close). But if you have to open 1♥, your next bid is 2♥ (if you're lucky enough to get the oportunity).
mikestar
You can open 1 or 4, but if you open 1, your next bid is 4, not 2. Bidding yet 3 is even worse IMO B). Bid what you wanna play sooner! The 4♥ rebid shows a very strong hand in natural systems--and hand too good for a strong but non-forcing jump to 3♥. Many partnerships in limited opening sytems play 1M-1x-4M this way: preemptive type hand a little too good for 4M, this works because a limited opener can't have a hand too good for 3M. On this hand 4♥ seems just right at these colors, regardless of whether 1♥ intending to rebid 4♥ is viable for your partnership.
Winstonm
4H. Why try to say in 3 or 4 bids what you can say with 1?
pclayton
4H. Stiff KS is probably a liability, not an asset. We wouldn't be discussing this is we held that card would we?
Fluffy
To mike and Helene: are you saying that after 1♥, biddign 4♥ is strong?, even when partner made a 2/1?

Sorry I was sleeping, you're right. But if partner bid 1♠, 4♥ is strong.
