Lead choice

[hv=d=n&v=b&s=sxxhkxxxxdxxctxxx]133|100|Scoring: MP

Dealer opens 2-opps pass throughout- 3 (Albaran)-3NT-4-4NT-6NT [/hv]

So Dummy appears to have a long diamond suit headed by the ace and enough extras (shortages) to try the slam.

We lead standard (4th best), but I am willing to listen to a discourse on what might be preferable.

Second highest club

Prefer attitude leads versus No trump contracts.

Prefer passive leads versus 6nt and leading into the strong hand.

If partner has Ace of hearts, will owe him/her a drink at the bar:).

I can count on partner for some defence, else why bother? I can also count on declarer liking the layout of the black suits and (probably) the good split.

Thus I suspect that declarer can build 11 non- winners. So I need to get going here: accordingly a small seems required.

Obviously, the could be instant death to the defence: declarer needs 2 tricks (and not 3) while having to lose a trick elsewhere. However, bridge is not for the faint of heart.... no pun intended.

Had I held more scattered strength or had reason to suspect bad news in the suit, I would go passive.

It sounds to me like d are not running but this bidding is confusing me.

3D=SLAM TRY

3NT=NO

4D=WHO KNOWS, WHY NOT JUST BID 6NT HERE?

4NT=NO

6NT=WHAT? OK I GIVE UP WHAT DOES 3D, THEN 4D THEN 6NT MEAN= SOME CONFUSING GRAND SLAM TRY?

If lho has shown solid D, and I would ask what hand type LHO has shown, then agree attack with h is best, otherwise passive.

I think if the diamonds are not solid, it is even more urgent to attack aggressively. If partner is sitting with Kx behing AQJTxxx, declarer can count 6 diamond tricks if we start with a passive lead, but only one if I succeed in setting up a trick immediately.

Anyway, low heart for me.

Mike777, the bidding means:

2C 3D

3NT 4D

4NT 6NT

3D = diamond ace, no other aces

3NT = natural

4D = long diamonds, slam try

4NT = misfit, not interested in any slam

6NT = natural

As I said, 4d is goofy followed by 6nt!

Partner declined slam twice!

We need to ask what the heck hand LHO is showing to make 2 slam tries, pard declines and then leaps to slam?
