On behalf of the Team - welcomeMaureen HallTeam Manager - (she who has to be obeyed B))[glow=red,2,300]The Team from DownUnder[/glow]aka The Terrible (just a hint ) Tuataras (who have been around for 225million years - survivors 8) )
keylime
Maureen, Darling what time is that for the eastern time zone of the United States? Like how many hours GMT are you?
Guest
Dwayne, dearest I suspect this may translate as 9 AM GMT, 5 AM EDT, 10 AM British Summer Time :) if I can get these darned Time Zone thingies sorted out. Cheers, little me B) btw Tuataras are the remnants of a very ancient order of primitive reptiles from the mesozoic, flourishing before the rise of the dinosaurs; they mature in captivity after about 20 years and can live for over 100 years!!! You'll also qualify for a free vestigial 3rd eye ::(
csdenmark
Time is fixed on Saturday, September 6, 2003, at 8:45:00 PM Wellington time
Guest
So if you're unsure about the time, Dwayne, just consult your Wellington Boots ("Wellies") ::) They're awfully useful in 'dem Everglades I shouldn't wonder B) little me again :-*
keylime
OK I somehow figured out the time differences...I'm 5 hours beind GMT and Wellington is 12 hours ahead so that makes it 17 hours of difference. Also there's the shift of one hour from daylight saving's time to regular time to factor in as well. I think I'm going to download one of those timekeeper devices to keep it all straight! Guest
A little world clock prog: http://www.zada.com.au/worldclock.htm Web page based: http://www.timeanddate.com/worldclock/personal.html But there's lots of things about including World Time Zone maps. keylime
Thanks Allan for the much needed utility - it's stable, simple, and had a wide database of cities, so I can keep track with all of my friends around the world. hallway
Dwayne my dear, I am 16 hours ahead of you - which is why I was sleeping whilst others replied on my behalf. ::) I would have suggested you download The World Clock (a link Claus kindly supplied for me) - now that you have that , there will be no confusion as it will track the daylight savings shifts also. Oh my, :o that means to be online on Saturday (8.45pm NZ) you will need to set your Alarm for 4.30 AM !!!! - are you a 'night owl' or an 'early bird' ? Never fear if the Alarm doesn't go off I will not hesitate to yell for a Yellow if the need should arise. We will play some future matches AM NZ :)
keylime
Folks fear not for I am the proverbial night owl and my lovely lady Samantha will make absolutely certain that she doesn't wear me out too bad prior to the event. I stated to Allan and will state to the group that I will be ruling from the WBF guidelines as it relates to electronic bridge. Luckily the differences between the ABF and the NZCBA are very very slight so uniformity will be the norm and not the desired objective. keylime
The nice thing about the 16 hour time change is the mathematics isn't that complicated to perform for the scheduling to work out. If matches are held in the AM New Zealand time, that would make it the PM (prior day mind you, due to the International Date Line coming into play) here in Tampa (I'll take Florida over New Zealand anytime -- I'm spoiled by the weather and of course, Samantha :o). Another thing of note is the use of convention cards. So far I do not see need for them, but if there's a method that is unusual to the regional scheme of things (luckily have been to that part of the world so I have a rough idea) I'll mandate them. Also, a webpage should be constructed hopefully with detailed hand records to document the play so everyone benefits. These are all things that will develop as we go along. It is an immense honor and priviledge to have been asked to officiate these matches, and I take my role seriously, but with the usual gregarious nature that I and the ANZAC peoples are known for. :)
