(I bid 4♥ as South - should I bid something different?) How / Should do u proceed. Steve
P_Marlowe
Hi, I think 4H is a little bit to much, just looking at your hand, you will see, that the most likely hand type for North takeout double, will be a strong onesuiter, just ask yourself, how happy you feel, if you need to play hearts opposite a void or singleton.=> 1H is enough. Over 1H, partner will bid 2S, howing a semiforcing in spades, which you should raise to 4S.The only alternative to 4S is 4C, which is probably better and risk free, since you already limited your hand with the 1H response. Over 4C I would sign off as North, but I fairly pessimistic, when it comes to the slam zone. The slam is magic, there is no dublication, the singleton opposite the doubleton, AKx opposite xx, the 6 card heart suit. And even with magic cards the slam is slight below 50%,because you need hearts 3-3, the Queen can be with East and with West. With kind regardsMarlowe
badderzboy
Hmm, Should the dbl promise tolerance for any unbid suit or a v.strong hand in a sinlge suit (likely ♦) and if partner has 2♥ even he must have ♠'s so we have a dbl fit? If we go slowly will opps find a minor suit game / sacrifice? Steve

Funny game this one. The H hook is likely to be on on the bidding. I wouldn't be worried about missing 6M. 4H is a bit much I would bid 1H and bid 4C over a S bid. You might get to 6M now opposite an aggressive partner. (Doubt it). Clearly over a 4H bid you will end up in 6H.

coyot
Agree with the slower approach. If partner happens to have a 18HCP hand on diamonds, he might even have a singleton heart and we've just broken our neck by jumping to game. With 4HCP, it is very unlikely that 1♥ will be passed around (and if it will, we're in the right contract). If partner now bids his strong diamonds, I show 2♠ (and this shows 5-4 majors and at least 4HCP. If he bids 1♠ (forcing for one round in our system), I raise by 3♣ - and he will have a good idea of my hand.
