Allow kibitzer conditions (custom/no enemies/etc.)

Recommended Posts

Given another recent discussion in another thread, I was thinking, if not too difficult to implement, if a tournament creator could allow or disallow a restricted group of kibitzers, might that be useful?

E.g. a private club could allow kibitzing by club members only (IF desired), a TD could disallow kibitzing by "enemies" etc.? Since one can already choose to offer tournaments with restrictive entry conditions, I can't think of a principled objection to restrictive kibitzer conditions.

I see no reason why I should prevent my enemies from kiebitzing in my tourney. After all, kiebitzers are normally silent, so they cannot do any harm. Maybe there are clubs that dislike non-members as kiebitzers, but I think prioritiy for this should be very low.

I should have explained my reasoning.

It seems that many (or at least some) people explain disallowing kibitzers as an anti-cheating measure.

If one has in the past added someone to one's "enemy" list because you suspect they cheated by using Messenger, or a second login, or telephone, or whatever, while playing, do you really want that person kibitzing your tournament? Possibly informing a friend who is playing -- by Messenger or whatever -- what everyone has in their hands? And they wouldn't need to kibitz the same table to say what the hands are, so as TD one would have no idea who the confederate was, even IF you happened to notice that the person was kibitzing.

If one is permitted to forbid some "suspects" from being kibitzers, it might lead to a greater willingness to allow kibitzers generally. Right now, one can allow all or exclude all kibitzers, that's it.

So my reason for requesting kibitzer conditions is primarily to allow one to exclude enemies (or a custom list?) as kibitzers, as an anti-cheating measure which might therefore encourage TDs to be willing to allow others to kibitz.

Right. I was removed once as kibitzer because the TD saw an enemy kibitzing (not me ;), I asked him).

A cheater needs 5 seconds to create a new account.

and another 5 seconds to experience that not accounts are banned but IP's
