Trumpace
You are South and hold: AQ, T9864, AK843, 7.E-W are vul. IMPS. East is dealer and passes. You open 1H. LHO doubles, Partner bids 2H. RHO bids 3C. You bid 3D. LHO doubles. Partner bids 3H. RHO passes. You pass. LHO doubles. All Pass. You comment that LHO is a consistent bidder. LHO looks at you with a blank face, then looks at his cards and leads Ace and small club. You see: [hv=n=st983hkj3dj6c9643&s=saqht9864dak843c7]133|200|Lead ♣A followed by ♣5.[/hv] What is your plan? coyot
It seems I'll be losing a spade, club and 1-2 hearts. If I am to lose 2 hearts, I need two diamond ruffs - so I would ruff a club high in hand - and if it holds, immediately cash 2 diamonds, ruff the 3rd with king, cross with spade ace, ruff the 4th diamond with jack. That leaves me with Q, 109xx, x, -. If the jack holds as well (and LHO is stuck with AQx in hearts and 3 spades, I can now exit with spade to his king, ruff a spade return with a small trump, lead a high heart and hope that ROH produces the darned 7 :) There probably are much better ways, but this is the first that came to my mind... Finch
What clubs does RHO play at tricks 1 and 2?In other words, do I think they are 5-3, 4-4 or 6-2?
Fluffy
I am gonna assume ♥Q is onside as well as the ♦Q, so I lead low ♦ at trick 3.

In the actual hand the clubs are 6-2 ..

Ruff the club with the 4. Then Ace and King of diamonds and ruff a diamond with the Jack of hearts. Provided this wins, ruff a club back with the 6 of hearts. Assuming LHO has the fourth diamond, I lead another diamond and when LHO covers I ruff with the K. Exit with a heart. LHO is left I hope with this: KJxxAQ LHO wins and can lead a spade. I win and lead a heart. LHO can give his partner a spade ruff now (who pitched 2 spades on the 3 and 4th diamond), but other than 1C and 3H losers I am now in control. Trumpace
These are the four hands: [hv=n=st983hkj3dj6c9643&w=skj42ha72dqt92ca5&e=s765hq5d75ckqjt82&s=saqht9864dak843c7]399|300|[/hv] This hand cannot be made (on ♣A followed by ♣5 lead) on accurate defence, which I think is hard for intermediate players (all four were intermediate at the table) to come up with... Finch
Funny... West's hand bears no relationship whatsoever to the auction (double of 1D? Double of 3H?) but we seem to be making much of the time anyway... ruff the club, AK and a diamond ruff with the Jack. East over-ruffs & he plays a trump. We let West win the ace ublocking from dummy, win the next trump in hand, draw the last trump and concede a diamond. West has to play a spade back as he is out of other cards. If East over-ruffs the heart and plays a spade through, we rise ace & ruff the 4th diamond in dummy with the King and play a trump. We can just draw trumps and enjoy the diamond. If East over-ruffs and plays a club, we ruff with the 10, ruff a diamond with the King and play a trump. If East doesn't over-ruff the diamond we are actually in quite a lot of trouble. I wonder how many people would find that? I was planning to make 9 tricks in a completely different way when West was 4432 with AQxx trumps...
