mike777
This one seems to come up often and I seem to be playing it different from my BBO pick up partners.2/1 (1C)=1S=(3C)=3S 3CLUBS of course is not explaned but assume they tell you, some values with some clubs. What does 3S show by a pick up partner?
mikeh
A willingness to play 3♠ More seriously, especially at imps, a good player in 4th chair will stretch to bid game. This allows a stretch to bid 3♠. 3♠ shows somewhere in the range of a good raise to 2♠ and a medium to medium minus invite. In essence, advancer is giving up on game unless overcaller has very good hand. If as opener you would make a game try over a 2♠ raise, then bid 4♠ over 3♠. Otherwise, pass. If as responder, you hold a hand with which you would feel you were in the upper half of the range for an invitational bid, just bid game. Incidentally, one advantage of this approach is that you will be surprised how often the opps will take a phantom, especially if they are not vulnerable, when you bounce to 4♠
