jw_nl
Tournament description: None supplied. The first chat of the host: "TD is playing, No Adjustments, Don't call!!" or "This tournament uses predealt hands". What kind of predealt hands? No specification given. Another tourney (again Tournament description: None supplied): Tournament chat open for players. A few players continuously chat to tournament, distracting a lot of other players. A fourth case: Clocked, 6 rounds x 1 board tourney. A lot of tables, one TD. The first round takes 11 minutes. Next rounds no change in time per board. More than one hour for 6 boards :P. If I had known the kind of tournaments before start I wouldn't have registered. At tournament creation time the host has to make a lot of choices. A few of the details are placed in the standard description : Hostname, Event type, Scoring, Undo allowed/not allowed, Clocked/Unclocked, #boards, #rounds, Entry fee, Restrictions. Other details aren't revealed to the players : TD's, Minutes per board, Cut (at survivor), Barometer, Kibitzers allowed/allowed silent/not allowed, Tournament chat allowed/not allowed for players and for kibitzers, Kibitz partner when dummy or not. These details are also important to players. But even if all other details would be made available in the description, I would appreciate to have some more. TD's playing : No / Yes Adjustments: Yes / No WBF laws apply : Yes / No Hands: BBO-dealt / championshipsboards / preset hands by TD (goulash / other) Time addition to rounds: If a host makes the tournament clocked it would be nice to know his ideas about adding time. As in the example 4 above a host adds time resulting in 11 minutes per round. In a clocked tourney !! In my opinion he should have chosen Unclocked. So please tell the players about addition of time in clocked tourneys: Only exceptionally/ always when needed) In the first case it is possible to count the estimated finish time (#of boards, # of minutes per board, and only a few minutes delay). Announcing the Finish Time in stead of # of Tables in play in the Status Field (Tournaments window) would make it easier to get subs, especially when kibitzers are not allowed. Talk of TD: Only tournament related: Yes / No. Maybe some players appreciate a host who is telling jokes or tells you how to mix drinks. I don't like to be distracted continuously. Special restrictions related to systems: All / Only BBO basic / Only BBO Advanced / other:... . I know that a TD may announce details in the description. The problem is that only a few TD's do so. BBO expects each player to experience TD's in order to be able to choose suited tournaments. So please make some additions to the Create Tournament window and inform players about all choices the creator has made. A lot of nasty experiences may be avoided, just by reading an extended Tournament Description. If there is no room for many additions I would suggest to include a clickable link in the description to a BBO-URL or to the site of the host (most hosts have one). newmoon
I understand your frustrations and I fully agree, since I experienced the same symptoms of this dreaded disease. I hope that at least some of your recommendations are instituted. Good post! ;) Newmoon
pigpenz
all i know is that i have run tourneys and people get mad for the most insignificant reasons :) Person gets replaced by sub because he wont respond to you replace with a sub....he chats back ill never play in a tourney of yours again...what can you say. Sometimes TD's are just giving us a play to play free bridge against other opps. Its ot always perfect, but sometimes its all we got.
