kgr
Don't know how to copy the movie here, but if you have it at hand:After ♣A was taken then 9 tricks were claimed for 3NT contract.I think that playing small ♦ is guaranteeing a 10th trick. It could be important or am I missing something?

kgr
...For me it was very strange that at this level they give away sure IMP's (this would be 1 IMP I think). Probably it was overlooked because after long matches and playing IMP's you can't look at these details. Other remark: I asked this question to 2 commentators, but no reaction. Probably a lot of other kibitzers were surprised by the claim of 3NT= iso +1. So I was a bit disappointed that the commentators didn't say anything about it. I can understand that there are a lot of questions and commentators can not even read them all. Maybe a god ide to work with co-comentators to filter the questions? ... Ekeblad didn't loose the match with 1 IMP?

Commentators usually don't have time to respond to private chat messages. No offence intended. We (I more than anyone else) get dozens if not hundreds during vugraph broadcasts, so it is simply impossible to focus on the bridge if we must reply to those messages too. Co-commentators to filter the questions? When someone invents a 26-hour day, I will be happy to look for more commentators than already needed. You could indicate someone as a co-commentator and when he is in the public then everybody sees he is your co-commentator. If you would indicate enough co-commentators then there would always be one in the public. They don't have the work to commentate and would have more time to filter the questions. You would only receive questions that are interesting to answer in public. BTW: What do you think about the claim. Is there some time pressure or do you think it was just a small mistake? Walddk
BTW: What do you think about the claim. Is there some time pressure or do you think it was just a small mistake? I wasn't paying attention at the time (mainly thanks to the loads of private chat messages I get :( ), but it is quite possible that time was an issue. Another possibility is that our operator made a "false" claim. That happens from time to time and is perfectly understandable. It is very demanding to be a vugraph operator, especially if you are on for several consecutive sessions. Roland
pmacfar
I think that playing small ♦ is guaranteeing a 10th trick. It could be important or am I missing something? If South leads a small diamond. EW will win 4 diamonds, A♠ and 2 hearts to make the contract with 3 overtricks. But that ain't gonna happen. He must lead a spade. After taking the A♠, West will take his two heart tricks (South discarding spades, North discarding clubs), then lead the diamond. Upon which East will rise with the K♦ and collect the Q♦ for 1 overtrick. But at IMPS, 1/2 overtricks is not worth much. Phil

Hmm, you mean I shouldn't have volunteered to be vugraph operator for the first time for all 128 boards of the upcoming England vs Netherlands friendly?

On the other hand, I bet you have volunteered to be the operator at the table where the women are. There is a reason for everything. Say hi to Heather, Michelle, Nicola and the others for me! ;) Roland
