1eyedjack
I appreciate that it is only of relevance to those in the "open", ie main playing area, who are a low priority, but may I suggest that if anyone clicks on a "redeal request" button they should be required to go through be a dialog box to state the reason for the request? Perhaps more common reasons should be pre-completed so that you only have to select a radio button for them. Most common would be joining a table part-way through a hand. Only, I have quite often come across opponents clicking on redeal request part way through a hand for no apparent reason despite that all 4 players have been present since the commencement of the deal, with no prior indication of any infraction. Rather than reject the request out of hand I would like the opportunity to give them the opportunity to state the reason for the request, and it would save time if they were prompted to do so without request. scoob
i'm sorry, but this sounds like a blatant misuse of fred & uday's already limited time. if someone requests a redeal for no reason that you can fathom, just ask - it surely cannot happen often enough to warrant a software change. 1eyedjack
Thanks for the replies, all. There are two issues to consider with any software request:( 1 ) is it an improvement and( 2 ) if so, how should it be prioritised. I don't see any of the responses dismissing the first question, so I take it that we have agreement that it is an improvement. To take the principal objection to its logical conclusion, the inclusion of an alert button is a waste of time, as a player can quite easily convey the message in a speech dialog box. Perhaps a bad example, as there are a body of players who think just that. The contentious issue seems to be item ( 2 ).Broadly I take the view that Fred is quite capable of determining priorities for himself, but since it has been debated in this thread my thoughts are that the priority is determined by( a ) the extent of the problem that it is trying to solve, and( b ) the ease of implementation of the solutionboth of the above taken into comparison with other demands on improvements. I am not a programmer but I reckon that the solution would be easy to implement. That would seem to elevate its priority. As to the extent of the problem, it seems that this is down to personal experience. Other posters in this thread suggest that it is infrequent. I only posted the request out of frustration following several such events in a single session of play, so my own experience says otherwise. Even so, I acknowledged at the outset that I regard it as a low priority. Yet, if members felt inhibited from posting software suggestions for fear that they would be regarded by other forum members as a "blatant misuse of Fred's time" then that would I believe be on balance a bad thing. csdenmark
A redeal-request is an act of courtesy helping you to avoid wasting your time testing obsolete contracts. For bridge 4 committed players are needed and as soon just one redeal-request has informed you that the deal is pure waste you have no longer any options for serious bridge than to accept. A redeal-request carry this message:Sorry Opposition. We have made a serious and unrepairable mistake which makes this contract meaningless to test. I propose we skip this. We intend to do our outmost to avoid such mistakes. Lets advance for a new deal instead of wasting our lives with meaningless activities. Do you agree? Your rightful action to redeal-requests ought to be :A smileA 'thank you'A quick click at the 'accept' buttonJack, I am also one of those who think it is a pity that focus during last 2 years has been directed to other areas leaving many new problems to Main Club players. That may be the purpose for which it is designed ... when it is not being abused.
