han
"Does my 5H bid ask partner to..." You know partner has 3 keycards. Since partner can't really have the diamond king, bid 6H. Asking this question is trying to blame partner for a mistake you made. I play 5H ask forcing if partner has 3 aces (asking for queen), but I would not risk this when undiscussed. If you had discussed this, you wouldn't be asking. "What do you think of my 3S bid" Good! "How forcing was my 4C bid?" In such an auction, any bid below 4H is forcing. 4C looks good to me. "Any other comments?" If you know where you want to play, bid it. Don't give partner a chance to go wrong, especially if you haven't discussed a particular bid. sceptic
I was not blaming my p, he is a much better player than me, by a long way. I know I should have bid 6, it was just something I was told in a lesson and I was trying it out (not the brightest thing I have done this week, but not the dumbest either) but I have been caught out before trying to judge 1 or 3 key cards and judging by luis comment there would be more than one way to play it (asking bid 6 with Q) so maybe it is something for partnership agreement rather than the basic way to play it? P_Marlowe
Hi, 5H asks partner to bid 6H, if he holds 3 key cards. Holding 3 key cards is the best partner can have hoped for, after he pulled out 4 NT,i.e. passing 5H says: partner is an ....,he always uses 4 NT, even if is not appropriate. With kind regardsMarlowe
Fluffy
5h asks for the heart Q to play 6. We use 5♠ for this, solves a lot of possible missunderstandings, do you really use 5♥?
helene_t
5h asks for the heart Q to play 6. We use 5♠ for this, solves a lot of possible missunderstandings, do you really use 5♥? 5♠ as an invite for 6♥ is not so practical. <_< Play kick-back or Turbo-4NT if you want a solution to this problem. Which you might not want that badly. There are more important things in life than your number of keycardse
Walddk
No offence intended, but is this not a Beginner and Intermediate Bridge Discussion Forum? May I suggest that you spend more time on what a 1♠ rebid shows on an auction like 1♦ - 1♥1♠ 1. Point range?2. Length in diamonds and spades?3. How many hearts?4. Balanced or unbalanced? Back to basics, yes, but what's wrong with that? Save the sophisticated conventions for later ... much later! Free piece of advice. helene_t
I agree, Roland. There are more important things in life, such as the example you just gave. However, the question asked in this topic was about asking for the queen of trumps. (Well actually it wasn't I now realize). Walddk
any other comments I was merely commenting on Wayne's last point. So yes, this is my opinion. Excuse me, but answers to the other questions he asks would be much too difficult for beginners and intermediates to comprehend anyway. Most advanced players and a few self-proclaimed experts are in the same boat. Again, no offence intended. Roland

luis
5h asks for the heart Q to play 6. We use 5♠ for this, solves a lot of possible missunderstandings, do you really use 5♥? You can't use 5♠ to ask pd for a queen to play 6 because you are already in 6.
ArcLight
Why is 5 of the trump suit asking to bid 6 if you have the Queen of trumps? If you play that way, then how do you sign off in 5? (which admitedly isn't that likely) Note: Wests double of spades didnt help his side. Better to jump to 4 Spades to kill your cue bidding space.
