flytoox
I found it is extremely slow this week to connect to bridgebase, also, i notice that i logged on to bridgebase.lunarpages.com, not bridgebase.com anymore. is there anything wrong or simply you change the server? thx fly
uday
We moved the forums to lunarpages many weeks ago. Lunarpages is a cheap hosting site, and we've been content. The forums used to run on the "real" BBO computer, but as load (usercount) has increased, we've moved stuff away from the real computer and onto Lunarpages. I'll be doing the same thing with myhands "one of these days". A side effect of that will be that we will keep fewer hands in the database - that is, you'll be able to look back at (say) the last 2 weeks worth of hands instead of the last 2 months. This is because the cheap hosting comes with a relatively small "disk" Anyway; I've not noticed too many problems w/the forums, but if we think the forums are too slow, let me know uday
keylime
I think the forums have been moving a decent pace of speed and if anything it's more of the local ISP on my end that has caused slowdowns. I also appreciate the forums maintaining the older dated posts as well. The information presented is still relevant.
paulg
My ISP says ... Customers may continue to see a degradation in service following the recent appearance of worms and an email virus. In particular I've noticed that the initial connection to many US sites (from the UK) has been significantly worse this week. Interestingly, using BBO, the connection has generally been excellent once it has been established. Paul
keylime
I will say this about BBO - the predictability of service I have with BBO is exemplary and one of the major reasons why I did not renew any of my paid subscriptions. Why would I want to pay roughly 100 bucks for e-bridge's junky interface and erratic connections when for free I can play a similar quality of bridge with members that are actually willing and open to playing what may be considered "non-standard" treatments? Another item of interest that I like about BBO...the diversity of its members. I have sit at a table and played with a Brazilian, Pole, and South African. Where in the world can you do this for FREE? Think about it -- playing in the Transnational teams at the World Championships is something like 3000 dollars, after you count entry fees, hotels, food, flights (unless you're continental European, then you take one of the E-roads into Monaco), etc. The diversity of our members is a great strength, and the fairness and equality exercised by our gifted admins and Fred is a credit to their character. BBO is simple the best, folks. It's clearcut to me, and that's why I eagerly support the service in my practices.
the hog
Be aware that the internet has had problems this week due to many servers being swamped with emails due to the latest virus going around. This is particularly a problem if you are not running MS Exchange on a dedicated server. Incidentally I have been getting several 100 emails a day which appear to originate from a bbo member who shall remain nameless. I am obviously in that person's address book. Lesson here is to update your virus definitions on a regular basis.
keylime
For those that are interested, there is a decent free antivirus scanner online - simply go to http://www.grisoft.com or to http://housecall.antivirus.com (there are others but these two came readily to mind).
