Erkson
It would be good to be able to connect at the same time to several vugraphs (open and closed rooms of a match for instance, or several matches). Why is it not possible ?My guess is that the multiconnection facility would make possible to cheat while playing bridge on BOL ? If so, wouldn't it be possible to have two independent softwares : one for playing bridge and another for vugraph shows, instead of this combined one? inquiry
Work around.... Jump onto one table and find one of your friends... tell him or her that you will go to the other table, and you guys send messages back and forth about what is happening on each hand. This is not exactlty the same as watching the action at both tables, but it allows you to share thoughts with each other about what is going on, etc. I use this strategy a fair amount of time and would share what is going on at the table I am watching with you if you like. Erkson It is *possible* to run multiple copies of BBO and login multiple times simultaneously from the same PC. For the first year of so of BBO we allowed this, but now only yellows (or people who can convince us thatthey have a very good reason to need this ability, likesome teachers) are allowed to do this. You are correct about the reason: there are a lot of easy ways to cheat (such as kibitzing yourself) whenmultiple logins from one PC are allowed. There was atime when this sort of thing became a serious problemfor us and that is why we changed our policy in this area. We are not going to change it back. Having a separate application for vugraph might benice, but I am afraid it is not going to happen. Thereare a few good reasons for this: 1) There are many advantages to having so muchfunctionality in a single application. 2) Creating and maintaining a seperate application that would like be used by a very small number ofpeople is not a good use of our resources. 3) We don't want to do this. Please keep in mind that we are a very small companywith a limited programming staff and that there aremany things we would like to do to improve BBO. The design decisions we make will be based primarilyon 3 factors: 1) We will do things that we think will benefit as manyof our members as possible. 2) We will do things that we think are fun for us. 3) We will do things that will eventually lead to generationof renenue from BBO. Don't think that 3) means that we are planning on startingto charge for BBO membership, tournament play, the abilityto watch vugraph, or anything else. BBO will remain free for sure, but we do have some planswhereby we (and other people like teachers and authors)will (hopefully) be able to make money through the site. Erkson
Hi, Ben !You wrote :I use this strategy a fair amount of time and would share what is going on at the table I am watching with you if you like. Thank you for the nice idea.My purpose was less to get real time information about what is going on in the other room than to get both matches vugraphs saved on my hard disk.Let me tell you what happened to me this morning :I watched the 20 boards of Hong Kong - Thailand, then I went and watched England - Poland last board. Afterwards what did I find on my hard disk ?The complete England - Poland vugraph and nothing of the HK match ! I suppose that my first file was overwritten and I should have made a copy of it -if it ever was stored on my hard disk- before going to the other match. I don't know and it is not very important. I will get the first match file from somewhere. Hi, Fred !I understand perfectly your reasons, and I deeply wish you get the success that you deserve for you and yours. Erkson. I usually rename one file, adding something like, say, Eng-Pol, sothere is no overwriting.
