mike777
3S I note that my RHO has passed, hmmm very interesting. I still hope that partner has a sense of humor on this one too.btw 4H at anypoint now is kcard.3nt or 4nt is to play.
Blofeld
I'd bid either 2♦ or 5♦; probably the latter. Or bid 1♠ and the keep on correcting back to diamonds if you want to do something 'clever'.
han
I have the following thoughts about this hand: 1) We are going to play in diamonds, not in hearts, and we are going to play quite high. 2) I'd like to keep the opponents ouot of this auction, and at the same time find out how high we should play. 3S seems like a good bid, will pass 3NT. whereagles
If you're felling lucky, 1H. Otherwise, just bid what you have: 4D.
coyot
Imagine the bidding: 1♦-p-3♠-4♠p-p-5♦-5♠. Now the opener faces a complicated situation. For LOTT purposes, the existence of a side suit fit is critical. If you bid 1♥ instead, no matter how quickly the opponents arrive at 4♠, you can then bid 5♦ and your p sees 9-10 of your cards (instead of having to guess how many clubs and hearts do you have.) hrothgar
Swan's play best in the long suit. I want to unambiguously set Diamonds as trump.I prefer to start with a forcing minor raise is.

This seems to be a very good reason to NOT bid 1H on Qxxx. Love my bid of 3s if LHO is about to bid 4S, Hate 1H even more now. If partner now passes 4S they must have nothing for an opening bid. Note partner has passed and not bid X or 4nt or 5c or 5d...what the heck do they have? In any event my rebid of 5D tells my story. Note my lack of bidding X or 4nt or 5c in passout seat. helene_t
Are you East or South? If your're South then it's interesting that neither opponent bid spades. Anyway, I have zero defence against 4♠ so I bid 5♦.

P_Marlowe
1H, no other choice is sensible. You dont know, if you belong in 3NT, 4H or 5D (??? at MP),the opponents did not speak upto now, why should they in the next rounds. With kind regardsMarlowe

You know that you're willing to bid 5♦ over opps 4♠ in any case - but it might be very important to show find the 4-4 hearts as well. You might end up playing 4♥ (if partner happens to have 4-4-3-2) and be better off than 5♦ - and if opps find the 4♠ save and you bid 5♦, your p. will be able to visualize your hand.
