whereagles
Hi, I've been having a lot of problems lately posting new messages, and sending private messages also. In fact, I'm not sure how this one got through. Does anyone experience the same?
inquiry
I got a private message from you when I logged on now. So that seems to be working for you. Ben
whereagles
Actually, I that and this message were the only things that worked for me the whole night. I wanted to post a few more replies but couldn't.
scoob
when a message doesn't go through are you getting any type of error? if so, is it something the forums are generating for you, or something your browser is giving you (perhaps a popup)? the only times i have ever had trouble posting to a web forum is when the connection between myself and the server is so delayed that my session times out - but that's never happened to me here. whereagles
I get the standard windows error of connection failure. Seems like a timeout error, yes.
whereagles
I just tried to post a long message, but it failed ;)
hrothgar
I just tried to post a long message, but it failed ;) might I suggest a simple workarroundcompose your posts in a word processor and then paste then into the webpage. This will allow you to save any work that might otherwise be lost.
whereagles
;) I've been doing that, but somehow long posts bounce back... ;)
scoob
are you on dialup, or behind a proxy server?
whereagles
Cable. No proxy. Automatic settings detection.
helene_t
Download a new webbrowser.
whereagles
Huh..?? It cannot have to do with the browser. It worked fine until 3 days ago or so. It's just that long messages fail for some reason.
scoob
ok i just tested a realllllly long post (several pages) and no errors. are you trying to post all text? if not, which buttons are you adding to your post?
whereagles
Not using anything fancy, just plain text, sometime with smilies, that's all. Maybe it's a cable modem or router misconfiguration. I'll try to reset those.
whereagles
Well, that didn't work. I'll try again tomorrow from puter at work.

csdenmark
Some recent version of internet explorer. Anyway, I just tried to post something long from my puter at work and it worked ok. Oh well... lol.Update your IE to latest version - completely free to do soDelete all of your temporary internet filesBe sure your settings are updating every time you access an internet siteReduce the number of days storing your temporary internet sites - I have 3 daysThis is the way to solve problems with Gmail account and cannot harm you but will do nothing or something good for you. Worth a try I think.
whereagles
Thx. I tried some of that already, I think. I'll try it all again, though somehow I feel the problem lies elsewhere. And no, I'm not swtiching to netscape... eheh. I don't like the philosophy of solving a problem by downloading a 200 Mb "patch" B)
coyot
Thx. I tried some of that already, I think. I'll try it all again, though somehow I feel the problem lies elsewhere. And no, I'm not swtiching to netscape... eheh. I don't like the philosophy of solving a problem by downloading a 200 Mb "patch" B) Then I would suggest a 5MB patch :-) - switch to Firefox :-))). I don't know how many IE-functions are missing in Firefox (never used IE extensively) but I know that there are a lot of functions that Firefox has and IE has not, most of the functions that both have are implemented more securely in FF and there is a ton of extensions available that you can get. (Plus, there is much more user control over what the browser does, and much cleaner configuration...) I don't know what else could be causing the problems. helene_t
Whereagles: check that your long post don't contain anything that might be held back by your Decent Internet Content filter. Child or animal abuse, alcohol promotion, brown sticker conventions etc.
