How do you play it?

Recommended Posts

1C - (2 NT) - 3D - (Pass)

3S - (Pass) - 4D - (Pass)

4H - (DBL ) - ?

2NT = red two suiter

3D = Unusual versus unusual, showing club support

4D = slam try

4H = something forcing

Over the double, what does each of these bids show the way you play (ok I think we can all agree on redouble)?

Pass

RDL

4S

4NT

5C

4D=slam try, yes RKC for clubs slam try. As usual if responder is not limited here I prefer they be captain on hand.

4H=0-3 now:

4s=Queen ask

4nt=sign off

5c=sign off

5D=Specific k ask and confirms possession of all Keycards.

pass=deny first round H control. Please rdbl partner with first round control

rdbl=confirm first round H control. Please continue to cuebid partner.

I post what I think is the most simple approach:

Pass: Interest in a first round heart control (Asking for a rdbl)

RDL: First round heart control, interest in the spade control

4S: Spade control a hand that can't bid 4NT probably with a void.

4NT: RKCB in clubs

5C: I had a minimum slam try so go to six only with extras

This is the way I would play with my regular partner(s), not what I would assume with a pickup.

a) I play 3H as club support, but I pretend that 3D showed club support

:D 3S natural

c) 4D cue bid for clubs

d) 4H cue bid for clubs

now bids are as they were without the double

pass = no heart control, unlikely to have a spade control as no cue, still interested

rdbl = second round heart control (in principle partner has shown first round control)

4S = cue bid (might be the King as partner's suit)

4NT = discouraging given the auction to date, not 100% forcing

5C = encouraging given the auction to date (in the context of not passing or bidding 4S this is effectively a trump cue bid, as what can you have other than good trumps to encourage?)
