Perhaps unfortunately, you have reached a game on these cards. Which game would you prefer to be in? What do you think of your chances in the game you selected?

Well they all pretty much suck. Worst to just really bad:

3N. No chance. Drunks is a midnight game will beat this - even if allowed a revoke.

5D. Fragile shipments to Sierre Leone have less handling charges.I can see issues on any lead, except maybe a heart.

4H. Well, I'm "cold" if I catch RHO with AJ or KJ dub of hearts and I can see chances if RHO has Jx and doesn't coveror I have the H7 in my collection. Additionally, RHO may nap with AKx and duck.

Given that Winston was the first to make the joke, I'll give a serious answer. 4H seems best. Besides the cases that pclayton mentioned, there is the chance that RHO goes up with AKxx. Not easy to figure out at the table: duck with AKxx, go up with AKx.

Well, it should easy to duck with AKxx, especially if the suit is bid 2x on your left. I can't think of a combo where its right to fly, but going up is wrong if Pard has Q, J or even 10 stiff or dub.

AKx is a LOT tougher. If pard has Jxx we must rise, but with Jx or 10xx we must duck!

And declarer has a guess as well playing me for AKx or Jx.

Looks like a good candidate for the card combos thread.

I wonder why the rules of bridge award a game bonus to 2S x'd but don't a slam bonus to 2D xx'd.

Because you get a game bonus for scoring 100 points or more for tricks.

You get a slam bonus by contracting for and making 12 or 13 tricks. Subtly different.

If clubs were worth only 10 points per odd trick, you would get a slam bonus for making 6C, but no game bonus.

Our auction was 1-1-2-2NT-3-3NT-4-5. This was a pickup partnership and south wasn't certain whether 3 was intended as forcing.

My feeling was that 5 might be a better contract than 4. If diamonds are not lead at trick one, then a heart play towards dummy will probably bring a diamond return. While best-defense (starting with a diamond opening lead) almost surely sets, I think you're pretty likely to make if hearts are 3-3 and diamonds are 3-2. No, this isn't a game I'd want to be in, but certainly I have been in (and made) worse.

The table result was 5N down one. A club was lead to the ace and declarer played a spade towards the king. When east hopped ace and switched to a trump, the contract was doomed. At the other table, the contract was 4 and a series of defensive errors allowed the contract to make with an overtrick (on the lie of the cards 4 really should be down).

Anyways, just curious where people would want to be on these hands. Certainly a better auction would end in 3 (south passing).
