How terrible can the difference be? Well, as so often happens at bridge table, you could save pd for his mistake(assuming he is wrong passing that hand) by opening 1C or 3C. What mistake? 3NT is a very reasonable contract, going down in 3NT is so normal... there is nothing wrong with 3nt, its a matter of styles, if you know partner could pass a 12-11hcp hand in second seat then you have to worry more about protecting your score, but if partner opens very light then there is no reason, so with some partners PASS conveys more information than it does with others. Free Posted July 16, 2005 Report Share Posted July 16, 2005 Just play weak or mini NT (that opens with 11-counts!!) :D 3NT is indeed a very reasonable contract, the only alternative for me is 3♣ opening, but I don't have enough tricks for that...
