Growth in Ladder Membership Plan

Recommended Posts

Hello all

An encouraging growth in those interested in Claus's ladder plan is happening. As people become more accustomed to the workings of the site then pairs events should become a regular feature of the site.

Why not make the effort to visit the site and see what its all about and make any constructive comment you feel would help the situation along.

kind regards

John ;)

Hi,

I have been looking at claus's ladder page. I think this is probably a fine way to get some fun competion going. I am confused by the "scoring". It looks like if you win a match you earn "5 points". Ok. Great. If you lose a match not by forfeit, it looks like you earn 0 points. Alright again.

But a funny thing seems to happen. If you win a match using a substitute, you earn 2 points (just as if you lost). So the only advantage of finding one is to avoid the "0" for not playing and to try to hold your opponents to 2 pt for not winning. If both teams play with a substitute, both are assured exactly 2 points. Do I understand this right?

The second thing is the scheduling issue. If you fail to play within a two week window, you lose 5-0. But what it both teams WANT to play, and both offer a number of potential match days, but can never agree on a time? Which one gets the five and which the 0? I am not a lawyer, but this seems to be a problem area. I already know how difficult it is to schedule matches.

Hi Ben

Everything you see are proposals - set up a team and then we start and correct to what we think will be right according to what our experiences telling us. We can discuss for years about details - doing nothing else - and who wants that?

The scoring is my proposal to avoid a team sets something up for competition and then call in a number of other experts to play and then they win. Therefore they can get no more than a start score 2. Penalty score for not playing the match is 0. To avoid plus and minus scores, simply a matter of administration tasks.

Captains Board is the body to set the rules - and not me. What I have stated is something to get started - similar to run a soccer-league or such.

To play league means to play many matches - one a week plus other kind of tournaments. Therefore some deadlines needed. But of course if captains agree on other schedules - then no problems with that. They just push a load in front of them. That rule 14 days is for a team to stand on if other team is reluctant or try to say holiday or so. Then they have a team with too small number of members for all the tournaments they want to compete in I think.

But still no problem Ben - register please and you will be very welcome to come up with some other rules to get started with. I think one set of initial rules might be as good as another set - I dont really care about anything else but to get some experience - and soon we all will be wiser.

I think the only thing what is sure right now is that initial rules will need to be modified after first tournament - maybe even before.
