thorvald
I have noticed it a couple of times, but this time I remembered to record it [hv=url=https://www.bridgebase.com/tools/handviewer.html?lin=st||pn|Thorvald,~~v3fakebot,~~v3fakebot,~~v3fakebot|md|1SKQ62HA54DKC87543,SAJ8H82DT97643CA9,S9543HKQT9DQ82CJT,ST7HJ763DAJ5CKQ62|sv|o|rh||ah|Board%2011|mb|1C|an|Minor%20suit%20opening%20--%203+%20!C;%2011-21%20HCP;%2012-22%20total%20points|mb|1D|an|One-level%20overcall%20--%205+%20!D;%208-17%20HCP;%209-19%20total%20points|mb|D|an|Negative%20double%20--%204+%20!H;%204+%20!S;%205+%20HCP;%206+%20total%20points|mb|2C|an|Good%20support%20in%20D%20--%203+%20!D;%2010+%20total%20points|mb|2S|an|3+%20!C;%204+%20!S;%2011+%20HCP;%2012-15%20total%20points|mb|P|mb|P|mb|P|pc|H8|pc|HQ|pc|H3|pc|H4|pc|S3|pc|S7|pc|SQ|pc|SA|pc|D7|pc|D2|pc|DJ|pc|DK|pc|C3|pc|C9|pc|CT|pc|CQ|pc|H7|pc|H5|pc|H2|pc|H9|pc|CJ|pc|CK|pc|C4|pc|CA|pc|D9|pc|D8|pc|DA|pc|S2|pc|SK|pc|S8|pc|S4|pc|ST|pc|HA|pc|D4|pc|HT|pc|HJ|pc|C5|pc|D3|pc|S5|pc|C6|pc|HK|pc|H6|pc|C7|pc|DT|pc|DQ|pc|D5|pc|S6|pc|D6|pc|C8|pc|SJ|pc|S9|pc|C2|=n&s=shdc&w=shdc&n=shdc&e=shdc]399|300[/hv] After trick 6 West is on lead and will have to lead a ♦ Actually it doesn't matter, but looking isolated on the suit it can't be right to lead the 9 from T9xx. johnu
Good falsecard by West. How good? Well, it fooled East who is a well know GIB master, so a pretty good falsecard.

smerriman
If you swap the positions of the J and 9 so that West has JT643 left and East played 9 on a previous trick, it will never lead the T, despite being a 100% identical state from a play position. But here with T9643 and J played on a previous trick, if it decides to lead a high card, it will lead T and 9 equally as often. I guess its rules about when to lead high from equals during the middle of the hand only apply to honors.
