1 - P - 2 - 2

3 - 4 - 5 - X

XX - 5 - X - P

6 - P - P - X

XX - All Pass[/hv]

Opening lead: J

Result: +2070 EW

This hand obviously cause lots of fireworks and led to lots of issues.

1) What do you think of South's doubles?

2) What do you think of West's redoubles?

3) What do you think of North pulling the first redouble?

4) What do you think of West pulling 5X to 6?

5) What do you think are the lead implications of South's doubles if any?

1) crazy. Where are your tricks?

2) XX of 5H I can see. I would expect to make, and not down 2, but I wouldn't like a runout. He feared a stripe tailed ape i guess. The XX of 6H was too much. 6H was sort of speculative, and theres no basis for the XX

3) Probably theoretically wrong, but in the heat of battle table feel should be used for sure. It's probably the practical call.

4) Presumably he XXed 5 because he thought 6 would make. This is at least consistent.

5) None. The first X was just penalty, the second X was REALLY penalty lol.

1. 1st one STUPID!! -- N figures ONLY to have a premptive 4 raise ONLY AND if he doesnt X the 5 MAYBE the opps don't find the COLD slam

THE others SUICIDAL !!

2. 1st XX good - 2nd greedy :lol: as INVITES 6 sac from opp who already took 5XX out {see comment 6 below}

3. GREAT as he figures 5XX will make (better score than 6 bid and made {1600 v 1440}

4. Good because there is an almost cast iron chance that 6 is on {considering N pull of 5XX }

5. ABSOLUTELY none -- and I would have pulled to 6 had I been N

BTW Had I been N I would have immediately BLACKLISTED S as a partner for the next 100 years ( and I am 62 )

1) What do you think of South's doubles?

Stupid

2) What do you think of West's redoubles?

The first was inspired, the second a little greedy (possibly he was worried 6H wasn't making and wanted to induce a save - otherwise he should have known there was a risk of it being pulled)

3) What do you think of North pulling the first redouble?

Poor partnership discipline. But maybe he's played with South before!

4) What do you think of West pulling 5X to 6?

Consistent with redoubling 5H

5) What do you think are the lead implications of South's doubles if any?

None. But I would have led a club from North's hand. He knows there are no spade tricks.

1) What do you think of South's doubles? Damn Fine bid if he is my opponent

2) What do you think of West's redoubles? Damn Fine bid if he is my partner

3) What do you think of North pulling the first redouble? Damn Fine bid if he is my partner

4) What do you think of West pulling 5♠X to 6♥? Well, damn, partner, hope you fine a way to make it.

5) What do you think are the lead implications of South's doubles if any? Should be Fined $1,000,000 and Damned for eternity if south thought there were lead implications.

Hmm... North was the one wondering if there were any lead implications.

I was North and agree that leading spads seemed like a waste. The question was whether to lead through dummy's diamonds or into declarer's second suit. It's not obvious at all to me why a club lead would stick out more than a diamond lead given partner's vigorous doubling.

Funny that are opinions that ranging from I shouldn't have pulled 5XX to I should have pulled to 6. I personally felt that pulling WAS a break in trust. But I figured (a) partner could only overcall 2 initially and (:P I had some doubts that partner understood that my 4 bid could be made on such a distributional hand. I was fully prepared to take full blame if 5 didn't make. Of course I could have left 5XX which is unbeatable and then just blame partner, but I thought I would help "warn off" partner from his actions since he was less experienced a player.

However, I think once I've gone to the point of pulling 5, I absolutely cannot pull 6.
