portia2
Playing 2/1, 1) Does S’s bid show the 6-4 shape? 2. Is S strong enough to make this bid? Should he pass 3D? 3. Is it better (especially playing pairs) for S to rebid his spades instead of 2D? Thanks. PrecisionL
Please edit this post (the bidding makes no sense). I think you meant: 1♠ p 1NT p 2♦ p 3♦ p 3♠ - ? In my partnerships this shows 6-4 and game try. However looks like you need partner to fit spades (2-cards) and have 2 1/2 cover cards (he probably is not that strong - depends how the partnership plays the raise to 3!d). nullve
Assuming 2/1: 1. Yes.2. No. 3♦ is just a "courtesy raise", not a strong invite like 2N or 3♠ would be.3. Debatable.
akwoo
"Standard" is that you rebid 2S with weaker hands and 2D with stronger ones. Usually, a hand that rebids 2D with a 6-4 shape will be one that is strong enough to always take a 3rd bid. I think this hand is not strong enough to rebid 2D, though it would be strong enough if that KC was in one of the long suits.

You have a minimum hand (counting the club king as full value is an error) and your long suits are weak. Akwoo is correct that the standard treatment with 6=4, where the 4 card suit is lower ranked and can be bid at the 2-level, is that bidding 6 then 4 then 6 shows extra values…I’d expect a good 14…this isn’t close to a good 14 And, if it were, I’d still not rebid spades after 3D. The time I’d bid spades, diamonds and spades would be, as an example, 1S 2C 2D 2N 3S or 1S 1N 2D 2N 3S Definitely not after a raise to 3D on the given auction unless I had something close to a jumpshift where I chose not to bid 3S over 1N. So maybe KQ109xx Ax AQxx x
the hog
3D is not a courtesy raise but shows a good 10 count. 3S is an overbid on this hand as you C king may be pulling no weight and your spades are not that good.
