mw64ahw
Playing 2/1 GI w. 2♥ showing 5+. Partner can support with a raise, bid 2♠ if short ♥ or bid otherwise to show 2♥.I could end up playing in any of 2NT, 3NT, 4+♥ or 5+♣
jillybean
Close, but with 2 passed opponents I will make a gf 2♥ bid. Over 2S it gets difficult, 2NT
Cyberyeti
2♥ not GF, much tougher problem if it is.
thepossum
I was going to say in theory 1NT but GF like everyone elseWhat else is there - a weak 3H - or is that strong - I can't remember - and its far too strong for a weak jump anyway :) PS I hate saying it but risking 1NT wouldn't be too bad :)
DavidKok
In 2/1 GF this is a clear 1NT. Upgrading because of a void in partner's suit and KT9-sixth is a good way to spiral out of control. Alternatively you could choose to bid 3♥, if that is an invitational jump shift (10-11, 6(+) hearts, denies spade support, not forcing). If 1NT is semiforcing (my preferred style) partner will only pass with 12-14 balanced on this auction (or 12-13 if you play 14-16 NT), which might not be so bad. We are missing our heart fit which is painful at MPs but partner's spades aren't coming in regardless of strain. Also the opponents might boldly join the action. sfi
Invitational 3H is my best guess, if we're playing it. If not, I'll see what ensues after a semi-forcing 1NT. It will be easy enough over 3H. I can raise 3S to game and have an easy cue if partner tries 4m. Over 1NT I'm hoping to bid 3H, but plans may change if partner does something interesting. As before I'll raise a 3S rebid rather than bid 3NT. I would think chances are pretty good. My heart spots are solid enough to avoid too much carnage most of the time, and I have useful cards if we wind up somewhere else.
the hog
If you play 2/1, then this is a 1NT bid. This is a very nice hand for the switch bid of 2D being a transfer to H.
pescetom
Thanks to all who replied. Playing 2/1 GF with 1NT semi-forcing, 2♥ unconditional GF and 3♥ invitational I was torn between the three. The misfit void dampened my enthusiasm for GF, but I was also (perhaps wrongly) reluctant to invite with no tolerance for partner's suit.In the end I settled for an uncharacteristically cautious 1NT and ironically we stumbled into a bottom of 5♣X-2 :)Most of the field was in 3NT down some (but undoubled), plus one 2♠E mysteriously making. Here is the full hand: [hv=pc=n&w=shkt9872da97ca952&n=sq86432haq5dt32c8&e=sakjt9hjdq64cj643&s=s75h643dkj85ckqt7&d=n&v=b&b=13&a=p1sp?]400|300[/hv]
mikeh
Good hand for Bart. I agree with David that 2H is a path to self-destruction. Don’t any of the 2H bidders play with partners who know how to bid? Clearly not, because they have no fear that partner might get them too high, given that they’ve forced to game with a far from good suit, ten hcp, and a void in partner’s suit! I have a 3D transfer available in one partnership but wouldn’t use it here. The suits too weak and the hand is too playable in a minor. I bid 1N. Over 2C, in one partnership I bid 3H, showing 10-12 (we open light) with 6 hearts. Yes, that’s inconsistent with rejecting an immediate 3D, but now I know he doesn’t have a gf hand with spades and a minor…one of the reasons to avoid committing to hearts early In the other, I bid 2D then 3H. Opener has a clear pass no matter how we reach 3H.
mw64ahw
Looks like I end up in 2NT1♠-2♥2♠-2NTPass Playing reverse Gazzilli and 2/1 GF how far do you go after1♠-1NT2♠-?
pescetom
Looks like I end up in 2NT1♠-2♥2♠-2NTPassNot an option in our system, as the 2/1 is an unconditional GF.Which is not written in stone, but I'm in no hurry to change it either. mikeh did well to remind me about the rebid of 3♥ after 1♠-1NT-2♣, which escaped me on the day but is defined as 6+ NF in our system. nullve
This is a very nice hand for the switch bid of 2D being a transfer to H.I play the switch, but it wouldn't help me here the way I play it, since after 1♠-2♦; 2♥ (weakest rebid), P = ~ 7-9, 6+H2-S2♠ = INV, 5+H2S, NF2N+ = GF .
