Arsen
Tourney chat is to be kept open or should be closed. I would like to approach this issue from another perspective. During my tourneys I don’t allow players using this function as I believe that it is “distractive” for the players. However when you run a clocked tourney with huge amount of pairs some of the tables can finish the rounds very early. In fact on some occasions players are leaving the PC. At this stage if the round turns before than “expected” TD’s are ending up with non responsive players as a consequence obliging to sub them. I don’t know if following modification could be done to our current software that “tourney chat” is to be “enabled” only “finished” tables and “visible” only by them. If we could do this players those who are already playing would not be distracted and the rest of the tables can have a chance to socialize and entertain themselves on the other hand it will possibly encourage “some of the players” to play fast in order to “catch” the chat.! hotShot
It is a nice idea, but at bigger tourneys there are sections that change the round at different times. So tourney chat have to be cut down further. TD's need to chat to the whole tourney, so tourney chat of this kind has to reach playing tables as well. This might get complicated. You would still only be able to talk to players of the tourney and not to your friends that are e.g. in the Lobby. Additional data traffic will be needed, Because you need to know if the recipient of your message has finished playing.

Thank you very much your input Hotshot, I would like to emphasise that on my suggestion Tournament Directors can still post messages to Entire Players but when players was using tourney chat it must have been seen by only players "those who already finished the round" . The idea is while keeping the chat open to "avoid" distraction of others because they are still playing.
mink
When I have finished a round I sometimes like to discuss the boards immediately with my partner, or chat with him about something else. This kind of conversation can become very disturbed by tons of tourney chat. And I have not yet figured out why tourney chat is important to me. An exception are tourneys with playing directors of course, where tourney chat is the best available means of communication with the director. But also there I would prefer private chat with the director if it was available. Karl
Arsen
Thanks for your input Karl. As it was mentioned on my original post the "Idea" is this; During big capacity of tourneys some of the tables are finishing rounds much before than others. Most of the players do not like to wait to end of round just sitting at tables on the other hand "tourney chat" is not activated on most of the tourneys because " a lot of chat " is really distracting when you are playing a hand. Under the light of the above I am trying to find a solution "How we can fill this (dead) time. Therefore if "tourney chat" is "enabled only" for finished tables players those who finished earlier will have an opportunity to socialise and entertain themselves without distracting others those who are still playing. Of course this is just a suggestion depending on capability of the software. Thanks again
daffodil
♥Hello Arsen and Tammy..I appreciate your sensitivity to 'down' time when tables are finished. Open chat for finished tables, an option? I would like some time to analyze mistakes and good points, if possible. Great idea. And thanks for Mystic Magic tourneys.♥
tammyd47
Daffodil, Thanks for you nice comments about Mystic Magic. We are always trying to improve the tourney so that all enjoy thorougly. We would like the open chat to be designed in such a way that those still playing wouldn't see it....as not to distract them. This way, anyone is free to discuss hands played or anything of intrest or fun. Again, thanks for posting a response and good luck!
vanilla
Interesting topic...true that waiting in a tourney is a problem when you play fast...but on the other hand free chat in a tourney can be most annoying...E-bridge, where I once played, has a good solution.....once you have finished the hands you are supposed to play in your tourney round you can chat privately with your partner, people in lobby or other people playing the same tourney (provided they have also finished the round)this normally keeps people occupied and waiting doens't feel like an eternetydid suggest this to Uday almost a year ago but doesn't look like he thinks it is a great idea though.....perhaps we should all talk nicely to him....vanilla
ivanhs_bg
I agreee with this sugestion. Tourney chat will distract the player which are playing but is needed by the players which have finished playing not to chat only with their table but with other tables and players. If it is not a big problem for bbo researchers. Dwingo
I had suggested this before, and I suggest here again as this is on a relevant topic. Chatting with Partner through private chat after the deal is over and during the waiting time for Round change will be something which I would like. Reason: Postmortem in private preferable to postmortem in public. This surely was a feature in e-bridgenmaster (ACBL online) and hence my presumption, that this may not be terribly difficult to implement. Also during this wait time time between rounds, if facility to read mail sent ( instead of waiting for next Log in ) Allowing "Chat to Tournament" between rounds appears to be nice, but I have my reservations. Too much clutter in the Chat bar will result in Director announcements to be missed. Prefer a different colour for chat text from Directors & co-TD's and then this should also be OK. fred
Thanks for some good suggestions. I will talk to Uday about this, but I can't promise that you will see changes in this area in the near future. fred
It's official - in the next version you will be able to private chat with your partner when the round is finished. Most likely we will be releasing a beta version that includes this functionality within the next couple of days. Arsen
Thanks for some good suggestions. I will talk to Uday about this, but I can't promise that you will see changes in this area in the near future. Fred GitelmanBridge Base Inc.www.bridgebase.com Thanks your interest re our topic “Tourney Chat”. As I understand that “Limited Availability” of the Tourney Chat will not be possible in the near future. However since topic was standing there I have received some related comments and suggestions from players during my tourneys. I found the following is interesting: Most of them would like to know what was the best contract on certain boards? Although this information is available on “Travellers” TD’s unable to retrieve and pass them due constraint of workload. On the other hand if we keep the “chat” open we might have a chance to enclose “rough” idea to announce “Players” what was played on the previous boards.
