He said to me in an incredulous tone.. "Is he allowed to ask me that"... Immediately the American shot up his hand and shouted DIRECTOR.... Kind regards John Ps ...I hope you are looking at and signing up for Claus's Ladder plan for beginners and Intermediates:-) In general, once you have pre-empted, partner's doubles are penalty, and you shouldn't take them out. Here North has an incredibly defensive hand for a 2H opening, so should certainly not be taking out a double. On that subject, I don't like much of the bidding as quoted here. West bid his hand particularly well, but apart from that I don't really approve. Norths hand is either a 1H opener or a pass, there is far too little in the Heart suit, and far too much outside for a 2H bid. East's double is strange. He is strong but not that strong. If he was prepared to bid up to 4S by himself, then he should have bid it straightaway. Similarly, South should have bid to 4H straightaway. inquiry
Question: what exactly is a business double??? "Business Double" is slang for Penatly double. In the real world these are clear as my opponents always blurt them out with a resounding and gleeful "I DOOOOOUBBBLLLEEE YOU". The question being asked is does the 3H/4H bidder now showing "cards", or does he think he is going to smoke the opponents? From North's point of view, it really doesn't matter. North has good defense and no need to bid. I don't like the auction at all, but with North's bids have been fine so far, and clearly he will pass regardless of which the double is. keylime
Yeah, and ever notice the really really fast tempo opponents use when they double you too? It's like they are about to hit the candy store, or better yet....well, better keep it "G" rated for the masses. :) Here's an adjunct...what's the wildest doubled/redoubled contract one of you have played that has actually MADE? keylime
2760?! That's an ACTUAL score...sounds more like a Lotto number that's played than a bridge score. I admittedly have had a more pedistrian set of scores, but lots of doubled/redoubled contracts...
