Planning to show the hand as 22-24 balanced I opened 2♣, but 2♥ was annoying, and with a single stopper 2N no longer looked like the right bid, so I passed.

 

What I failed to realize was that Pass here is showing 25+ HCP as the bidding continued

And now I was in trouble as any bid would show 25+ - the explanation to 3♣ was just 4+♣

 

My opponent solved it by bidding 3♦ over 2♥

 

When I bid 3♦ over 3♣, GIB jumped to 4NT for aces on this hand

I did not find a way to stop in 3N or 5♦ after my pass to 2♥

Don’t both 3NT and 4NT need the diamond onside? So you have at least not lost by not being in 3NT.

Yes, I passed 4N hoping it was right.

 

As ♦K was offside it was 3 down and 3N is only 2 down :-)
