ahtan Posted August 25, 2022 Report Share Posted August 25, 2022 Is it possible to give TDs the option to make a tournament a "just declare" tournament? i.e. create a regular tournament but robots bid it. Then players (students) play what is bid. It's not "bridge", but it would be useful for learning purposes when put together with an uploaded set of deals. The BBO club IAC (Intermediate/Advanced Club) holds a "Dare to Declare" tournament most Mondays at 18:00 (GMT) that seems to match what you are describing. It is simple to upload a predefined series of boards, already bid or not.The teacher can define the contract for each board, and shame those who do not make the contract (training for IMPs).Or simply set suit for each board, and let those who take most tricks win (training for MPs).She could also (at least until 2021) use Dealer to create a series where South can always make at least n tricks in Spades (or in NT, as desired). I would have to distribute the instructions and ensure all students read the instruction properly and execute it. I only interact with them via whatsapp and many of them only use phones for the comms and no printer! I'm talking seniors in age who are beginners to aspiring intermediates. I think that trick taking ability is much neglected in general. Once you bid "correctly" (whatever that means 8-)), you need to make that contract. I meant as a software improvement :) Upload the boards already-bid, just like in the robot "just-declare", except the hands are bid by the teacher and not by the robots.
