Is there a way to _investigate_ slam

Recommended Posts

This hand came up tonight at BBO.

You hold:

AKQ2, AT865, KQJ7, -

We red, they white at IMPS.

RHO deals and passes. you bid 1H (would you have opened 2C?). LHO bids 2C. Partner bids 2H. RHO now comes in with 3C.

What is your plan?

[EDIT]

The correct title should be "Is there a way to _investigate_ slam". I don't know how to change the topic title.

Try this trick, which I use sometimes: 3.

If pard comes up with 4 (a min) or 4 (max, but club wastage), better stick to game only. But if he can conjure a 4 bid (max, diam control, so no club wastage), then there is a pretty good chance slam makes.

Instead of 3 you can also try 3. Both bids are similar, but 3 has the advantage of making very clear slam is the purpose (3 might be only a game try).

Hi,

If you really want to make a move: 4C.

Should show shortage, asking partner to

move on, if he holds no wastage in clubs.

No, I would not have opned 2C, and no I would not make

a move toward slam.

Partner needs the King and Jack of Hearts and the Ace

of Diamond to make the slam decent, i.e. nearly a perfect

maximum. But a try cant hurt, except blowing overtricks.

User can't edit titles, but administrators can. I normally would respond to messages sent to my by Private Message or to comments like your EDIT one in your post. Without making any comment (The "delete the duplicate post" kind of message where users can delete the words but not the post... I come along and delete those post eventually).

But here I left your comment in to show others how to get the title of their post changed (or one of their post deleted).. something users can't do on their own.

As for the slam, if this is an individual, just bid it. Otherwise, I like 3s

5 is imo the best bid, but with pickup partners it might be too dangerous.  3 is the best alternative imo.

5 would be exclusion BW ! 4 is enough.

Yes, it is meant as exclusion blackwood...

6 hearts. With a pickup pard i prefer this to any "intelligent auction." Do it confidently and they may bid 7C (they are white/red). If they pass, you may make. With a pickup pard I wont try anything fancy, I'll just play a little poker with my opps. I would equate this to a semi-bluff.
