Bid Quiz 1.

Recommended Posts

Looks misfittish.

I'll pass, though I've no real idea if that's the right action.

Man, I hope P has decent diamonds for his 2-level overcall.

I bid 2, just might raise to 3 should Partner rebid 2NT. I play sound overcalls. This is a deck of cards with 60HCP, and opps are light and distributional.

I think............................

I don't know if anyone plays it, but this sure looks like a good case for playing that ELC can include responder's suit. Double then pull clubs to diamonds to show:

AQxx, x, KQJ9xx, xx

Hard otherwise to get to the spade game.

IMO 1 is a reluctant response,2 may a simple rebid means 6 card and 12~13 HCP.I must believe my PD and the 2.

Only dbl is an suitable option to me.

I've got length in opponents suit. My spades look worthless with them being bid on my left. Hence I pass. I want nothing to do with this auction

Very hard problem. The hand should be ours, but yet we have no clear bid... so according to Robson/Segal, I guess this means DOUBLE (whatever that means.. lol)

Yes, that was my point of question 2.

My understanding is x is often "takeoutish" in Europe but 100% penalty in USA. I was wondering if this is perhaps the next big change coming in USA bridge. The elimination of low level penalty doubles in almost all situations.

This has already happened. If this X is not penalty, you can take out the "almost"

It sounds as if partner holds a pre-emptive diamond hand too flat for him to feel comfortable bidding a vulnerable 3D. I would not be suprised if all he holds is:

xx, xx, KQJ109xx, xx.

Even with a slightly better hand, it is almost impossible to imagine a hand he might hold without long and very good diamonds. If this is the case, then the highest we most likely need to be is what I bid: 3D.

I would be surprised. Very much so. That would be like opening 1M instead of a weak two because you have too few points.
