Game try or slam try

Hi

I was concerned that my lack of protection in Clubs was ignored

I didn't even think game was on

But I respect that it had enough for game at least

What does the Game Try mean?

Quite a few tables managed to find the obvious Slam and all 13 of the tricks available

With human bidding 3 is initially to be interpreted as a game try, but if it's followed by bidding game anyway, it completely overrides the original meaning to have shown a control in clubs with (failed) slam interest.

Here it's just a bug as a result of having having too few points to bid game initially, but too many to pass later.

But of course, you don't want to be in slam when the opponents can take the first two tricks.

Yes, all 13 tricks are there if the opps. do not lead , but as to your question about 3 game try I cannot comment as I do not know how GIB bids though I think that the best bid by you is 3 instead of 3 after 3. To me that would show extra values, and even though you have ignored the question about strength, ATxx AKxxxx x xx is so much more than a 11 count supporting your partner suit so quietly bidding 3 is telling partner nothing imo.

I would like to know if other forum members agree with this, and if someone could do a simulation to see how GIB bids after a 3 response to 3. Thanks.

The obvious slam off two cashing tricks? What am I missing? Or is this just your usual rambling?

Sorry I appreciate some cultures do not get my culture's sense of humour. I apologise for leaving off a signifying emoticon

I thought people would give me more credit for my Bridge knowledge and competence by now (ie some)

It was a comment on the defence especially after a clearly indicated weakness in clubs

At least I thought I had indicated a lack of strength in that area

It didn't stop some tables managing to find and make slam, only being down one keycard

Thanks, yes I was a bit unsure as to how close to Game we were. Decided on going for 3+1 rather than 4 or 6 or 7 minus etc

I still get a bit confused about all possible responses to game tries with two small losers

That's what I thought that after the game try being rebuffed that was it

But I accept maybe the Bot was thinking slam

It wasn't. Change its J to a Q and it will jump to game instead of the game try. It just doesn't consider it strong enough to bid game.

(In fact, basic GIB also passes 3; it's advanced GIB that decided it couldn't bear to pass 3, but didn't understand that if it were going to bid game anyway, it had to be the round before).
