negative double over 1D (11-15)

Recommended Posts

Can I gte a quick refresher on negative double when partner opens artificial 1D and is overcalled 1H, 1S and 2C. With the first two, I'm promising the other Major and nothing about the minors, I assume, but if my memory is faulty, please remind me. If bidding goes 1D-2C am I promising both Majors, or is that just partnership agreement. For purposes of negative double, are we treating the artificial Diamond as if natural ? Thank you

Most play 1D (2C) dbl as both majors and the 1D isn't treated as natural if it isn't. Many play 1D (2C) transfers. You can research what awm has posted for his 1D (2C) dbl continuations as well as 1D (2D) dbl. He has ways to differentiate opener's fit maximums with or without stoppers.

I'm sometimes fascinated to learn what I apparently play. I'm pretty sure I've never used double as a transfer in any auction or partnership. What we actually play after 1-(2):

X = either both majors, or one 4-card major with inv+ values

2, 2 = transfers to the next major

2 = inv+ with 5+

2NT = natural

3 = stopper ask

3 = natural, less than invitational

After 1-(2)-X, opener's rebids are:

2, 2, 2 = natural, bid a major if possible

2NT = balanced max

3 = 14-15, either both majors, or one major plus a club stop, opener cannot pass below game

3M = 14-15 with this major, no club stop, no other major

:D...my comment was loosely worded, and meant to say transfers over 1 - (X), starting with XX, i.e.:

1 - (X):

XX:

1:

1: Transfer to NT

1N:

2:
