nonforcing reverse after freebid?

I suppose it is a hazard of 5cm / strong NT that you may be stuck bidding 2 with a weak hand that has 4 hearts, 3 diamonds, no spade stop and inadequate club support. But why on earth would bidding 2 not promise another bid?

Usually, you will either have a spade stopper or 3-card club support, or your diamonds are AKJT which looks like a 5-card suit. Or partner is a passed hand so you just pass.

With xxx-AKQx-Qxxx-Jx I will just have to choose my poison.

So I think that 2 actually shows extras. But maybe I am wrong. I haven't discussed it seriously with anyone.

Well, even in Bridge World Standard a 2 level freebid doesn't promise another bid - it only forces through to 2 of opener's suit. Unclear whether they play 2 as forcing though.

It's quite a different situation to say, a SAYC 2/1 without interference, as your natural rebid there may be NT which could be taken away here without a stopper. And opener also has the new option of forcing with 2. I might poll to see how others play 2 as I don't know what's standard either. Probably forcing but some hands seem tricky.

And nearly everyone continued with a (surely game-forcing) 2 as responder with a minimum 3325.

I don't see why 2 should be GF (if we aren't in a GF already). It is the cheapest bid available so it makes sense to play it as ostensibly scrambling.

Besides, if I want to win the post-mortem I can always say that Ingberman applies here :)
