I hope it was correct use of Lightener double asking for a Diamond lead I got a Diamond lead, but was that the normal lead you would expect without the Lightener double? luke warm
without the double i'd expect a trump lead, maybe a spade... good double
mr1303
Yep, this is what the Lightner double is designed for. 7NT would appear to have no play, since you hold the club guard and partner can hold the spade guard, and there is no 3rd suit for a double squeeze. mike777
Yes, better to keep lightner as lead dummies first bid suit rather than lead something unusual. Former approach keeps things simple, latter approach causes too many headaches and too much stress at the table. Let the World class play it that way, I think you will enjoy your bridge much more keeping things simple.
Free
clear lightner dbl :D
pmacfar
Why not make the lead directing double after south's 5♦ response to partner's blackwood to direct partner which suit to lead? the only risk is that north leaves it at 5♦X, making six, but that does not score as well as slam, so north probably will not leave the double in. But he might redouble! Eric

What are you bidding over 5♦XX back to you? That seems to score a bit better. If you knew they wouldn't redouble you, you could make a stripe-tailed ape double of any of their bids. Fluffy
5♦XX +2 is less than 7♦ or 7♥, but on the long run it is a safer spot and better. Althou on the given hand its sure that north will redouble, south might not agree on the contract, I have seen lead directing voids not beign punished when avaible several times. Still the lightner double is very clear, when dummy's longest suit is not trump is the easy one.
mr1303
The danger in making Lightner doubles is that they might be able to run to a making contract, usually in NT. If S had the J of spades for example, 7NT would have play, and they might well bid it knowing that you have a diamond void.
bearmum
I play lightner X there as "please lead dummy's FIRST bid suit" GREAT X sceptic (I am assuming that's what you have agreed with P  :D )
