Are the BBO Daylong hands even more engineered

Hi all

I find the bidding system on BBO totally overengineered and controlling at the best of times. I don't know if its my perception but the hands in BBO daylongs seem to be getting even more controlled in line with the system to make it almost impossible to navigate

There certainly isn't much fun. Maybe making something so hard to navigate is a commercial decision to manipulate people into losing more cash in the tourneys. or paying for more expensive ones

I noticed they re even worse in the freebies

Bridge used to be fun. Don't kill with psychopathic engineered control

Certainly no fun most of the time

There needs to be flexibility, room for creativity and not needing to know the minutea of one ridiculously overengineered system

Its like setting someone a dodgy exam full of traps to suggest they are no good at something

Its like modern day recruitment. You may have a lifetimes experience and be the most creative X in the world but you don't know our proprietary methodology. Selling lessons and certificates too

I'm going to keep asking and pointing it out.Others have asked to. When I check the pattern of this stuff its often last hand of a tourney when you are doing ok

I know there is bias and other factors but it looks like a dodgy commercial money making thing to me. You know what I mean - manipulative casino/poker machine type gig

And I'm a pretty good bidder after all these years (not the best card player). I don't like being constantly talked down to and having legitimate questions dissed like others do on this site

Don't keep trying to make us look ignorant. Not all of us are stupid. Some of us are smarter than most of view

8 at least reasonbly random non-manipulated hands. level playing field etc etc. Thats what bridge is and always was. Maybe its just the massives need to be so manipulated. But its a rip off and no fun for anyone with half a brain or more

And you are one of the regulars who like to try to talk down to me. Do you work for BBO

We are paying our money so I reckon that means you listen to us. Or has the world changed to. Go somewhere else mentality - in fact go where in an almost monopoly

Not sure what the problem is.

The daylong hands are biddable and playable.

Make sure you look at brief bidding descriptions before you bid to determine what your robot partner's bid (probably) means and how your robot partner will interpret the bids you make.

As an aside, it is hard to win a daylong tournament.

In addition, my perception is that technically the daylongs are tougher than the typical in person local duplicate event.

I'm a fan of the daylongs. They have helped me learn to play better.

I think people are missing my point about manipulation of massive duplicates

Allegedly there are hundreds or thousands of people playing and from my point of view the quality of hands is inversely proportional to the number of people allegedly playing, and the engineering level is proportional in some way to the size of it

Its not fun for anyone with a modicum of intelligence and flexibility and fun.

Its like a graph that forces only one legitimate path to some boring inevitable samey contract - not much different to 3NT

PS I'm not some newbie ignoramus. I learned bridge using packs of cards dealt by humans before a bunch of nerds took over the world and make money out of us every way they can

Maybe people think learning to play GiB 2/1 is learning to play Bridge. I beg to differ. Can you sit with a total stranger (or 3 sttrangers) and play what you think is Bridge

thepossum believes BBO do not generate the hands at random, but intentionally rig them solely to annoy him. No matter how many times statistical analysis has demonstrated this to be false in the past, he repeats the claim regularly with nothing to back it up - other than once in a while posting a single hand and mentioning how 'non-random' it looks to him.

Thepossum must be a fan of Q :) .

Look, Mr. possum (don't you just love sentences that start with "Look"?), unless you think there's some secret conspiracy fantasy cabal of bidding system engineers making different bidding systems available to different players (you don't go that far, do you?), then everyone is playing the same annoying system, and yes, I agree with you that it's annoying, and that the robots are a little off in their bidding sometimes, and that it's nearly impossible to make a standard penalty double that won't be considered to be takeout, but unless you're going to say that "they" (you know, "they" of "them" fame) are specifically trying to mess you up (you're not saying that, are you?), then get a grip. After all, there are some 53 octillion Bridge hands, and they're all actual Bridge hands, right? It is not reasonable to say you only want to play the easy ones. So, if you're wondering whether the system or the hands are "rigged" to take your money, then either accept the way it seems to be or stop giving it to them, but please just stop feeding what seems to be an addiction on your part to complaining. After all, you know what happens if you keep practicing being unhappy, right? You might get good at it! Good luck, and I mean that sincerely.
