we play 2he kind of constructive. my opinion is: bidding 1sp with he fit u need enuff strenght to be able to control the following round of bidding.

 

after 1he-p-1sp-p-2sp we raise with 3 cards very often with what we consider proper hand so a bad contract will be reach again.

 

 

 

 

my question is what went wrong?

2H is his bid regardless of what the system is. The spades are 6 high, if you raise to 2S with only 3 trumps its a disaster (as you would have done on this hand).

If I have less than 10 points and only 1 bid and 3 of partner's opening major suit, then I am going to raise him instead of bidding my own suit.

 

So for me the best auction is

1♥ pass 2♥

 

If you know that you have a fit with partner after he has opened, then tell him immediately. First priority for me.

Bidding 1S on that poor suit and risking a raise is not a good idea. If the immediate raise is too weak for your style, then go via a forcing 1NT response.

Incidentally, this is not a weak hand with a singleton and concentrated values in Ds.

I (almost) never respond 1♠, with 3♥s and 4♠s and of strength only for 2♥ raise, when pd opens 1♥. When I respond 1♠ with 3 card of ♥s support, my hand is at least good for game invitational.

2 of the highest priorities in bidding are:

 

1) limiting your hand

2) find a fit.

 

Being able to limit your hand OR find a fit as soon as possible is a great benefit for pard: either he will know your strength range right away OR the knowledge of the fit may help him reevaluate.

 

In this case, you can do BOTH things in one single bid.

True, raising 2H right away *might* lose when you miss a *possible* 44 spades fit.

BUT it gains in all the other cases.

Also 2H from me.

- Support your partner's M when you can.

- Bidding S and supporting partner later in H should show a better hand and good spades.

- You only have 6 pts and don't want to give the opps too much room to find their suit.

- and more on this hand: If partner comes in a situation that he has a singleton S and a good hand and has to choose between 3H and 4H later, then he will not like that singleton S after your S bid (he will think you have lost values in S).
