I couldn't bid 4♣ because it would show 0544 shape. I opted for a safe game in hearts with a 7-fit rather than rebidding ♦ without extra length or the ace. North didn't even correct to 5♦. Running 3 trump reveals the 6-2 split. West ruffs a diamond and drives out the rest of the trump. Defense can run spades, but West instead returns a ♣, handing me the contract. As for the 3♥ preference bid, I'm sure GIB N would have supported diamonds if it had better support, maybe a 7th or 8th diamond and a couple of more diamond honors.
