AL78
Ok so you can make it when the defence kindly open up the heart suit for you saving you a guess as to how to play it for only one loser.
LBengtsson
not looked at spoiler. I would take ♠A, ♦to K in dummy, play ♣Q. that sets up crossruff and trump reduction play. I assume one opponent wins ♣ and then they take 2♠ tricks. I think the opps now need to switch to trumps. that will help though they will win ♥A and play another ♥. various chances that ♦q is a treble, or you can set up ♣ in dummy for losing ♦ discard in your own hand. Actually no you can't after winning the first spade, providing E plays the right heart. The way to make it is to win the SECOND spade and play a club immediately, now W has to expose his partner's K to a ruffing finesse or can't cash the third spade, and you have an extra entry to dummy to lead clubs. bgm
That is a quite interested and delicate hand. Declarer has a dual threat - cross-ruffing or establishing ♣. Even if declarer win the first ♠ and play ♣, after E win,he need to cash the ♥A, 2 ♠, and play the second ♥ through dummy's ♥9 This ensure declarer cannot ruff ♦ twice, nor having the 3rd entry to establish ♣E cannot profitably attack the second round ♥ which gives declarer the 3rd entry
Winstonm
What kind of hand would west have to pass then fail to make a weak jump overcall but still bid twice with a spade suit headed by the KQ(J)? I win the spade and return a spade. I want east to find discards before knowing much about my hand. PS: I originally decided the opps must play some type of KS with super solid openers and no weak two bids so guessed that west held:KQJxxx, J, xxx, Kxx In the first Bols Bridge Tip Hamman went straight to the heart of things: ‘Would try to play golf or tennis blindfolded? That does not seem a very intelligent thing to do, but most players do exactly that when they play the hand at Contract Bridge. ‘If you ever to amount to anything at this game, you must build up a picture of the unseen hands. The idea is to know what the problem is before you try to solve it.’ http://youth.worldbridge.org/bols-tips-if-you-take-up-boxing-you-must-expect-a-few-bloody-noses-by-bob-hamman/ Edited August 15, 2021 by Winstonm
